urrently have Dexter 7k axles and brakes and am planning on complete replacement. My trailer gets used daily with full loads and is subject to DOT inspection. Anyone have experience with other brand brake assebilies such as Tekenoshia ot Nev-R adjust. Really like the idea of self adjustment.

Ditch the drums and get disc brakes. Yes, they cost more up front but the upkeep is nothing. I did this to 2 of my 3 trailers. In my opinion 1 axle of disc brakes has 2 to 3 times the stopping power of two axles of drums.

The big benefit is maintaining them. You can visually inspect them without removing a wheel or drum. Pads are $10 from Auto Zone (mine use Chevy truck parts), ect.

Thanks Chris. I like the concept of disc brakes and will have then in my next trailer for sure. If I were to upgrade to discs from drums about how long would it take a back yard mechanic to do the swap and are there any special tools or techniques I need?

Nothing special. If you have done bearings and seals and bleed brakes before you could do it I'm 4 hours easily. I can change a axle over in no time. It's all bolt on stuff.

Have a 20 ft gooseneck with tandem 6k dexter axles with brakes on both axles. Replaced the assemblies with the Nev-R-Adjust from etrailer a few years ago. Everything went on like it should and works like it should, I'd go the same route again if I was in the same position.

Can you convert to discs on electric setups or just electric over hydraulic?

It will need to be a Electric over Hydraulic system.

check etrailer for conversion kits.

https://www.etrailer.com/faq-Adding-Electric-Over-Hydraulic-Disc-Brakes.aspx

the discs - brackets- calapers kit is 250- $300 per axle
Disc Brakes Trailer Brakes | etrailer.com

the electric-hydrualic pump kit is about $700
Titan BrakeRite I Plug and Play Electric-Hydraulic Actuator Kit Titan Trailer Brakes T4813102

a brake line kit is about $100
Trailer Brakes Disc Brakes Brake Line Kit Brake Lines Accessories and Parts | etrailer.com

All and all your looking about about $1100 for one axle conversion, about $1400 for both axles.

I get the brakes for about $250 per axle. The hydraulic unit I get for $550. Hoses are about $100.

So you can do the conversion on two axles for under $1200 if you shop around.
