Hello,
In getting ready to prime the oil pump through that plug on front of engine (it is 15/16), I changed the oil, new oil filter, and new oil in the air filter container. I cleaned the plugs - oh separate question on them. I heard autolight 437 is what I should use, but auto dealer said autolite 216 is the replacement, but I recently read that the Autolite 216 is for later models than mine - so do I look harder for A437s?

I put a tablespoon of transmission fluid down each cylinder since its been sitting for a year. I charged the battery, and just cranked it a brief moment to get that oil moving. With the plugs out, I felt the compression on two of the holes and it felt really strong, so hope that is a good sign. But somehow in the process, I saw the #4 plug became pulled out of the boot at the distributor -leading me to this question. The wire pulled right off the copper end inside the boot. Instead of wire, what I expected to see, it was like felt strands, like a rope. I never did this so did not know what to expect. I read where I should replace with copper core wires. The Ford dealer said using copper is old school. He has a set for $44 but I would have to cut them to size. For same price he has a custom fit set, but I think he said carbon fiber. He said that is what's being used now. I'd appreciate your thoughts please.

Also, the wires run through a conduit atop the engine which has four slots, but the boot is fatter than the slot, so I thought maybe I should go with the version I have to cut - but the dealer said he can show be how to put it through - do you just squeeze them through?

Finally, my numbering, as you probably know, from bottom left and clockwise on the distributor, is 1,2, 3 4. It seems that they matched to the plug with number 1 being at front of engine followed by 2,3 4, with 4 being last toward the steering wheel. Is this the right order? As I read in the manual that the firing order is 1,2,4,3. So does the positioning or matching to the plugs matter to the firing order?

Wow, sorry for the length, but I appreciate all your help. cfb

opps. sorry, at the distributor, the numbering is actually this. on the left side 1 is on top and 2 at bottom. On the right side (as looking from the front of the tractor) it is 3 on top and 4 at bottom. thanks. cfb
