I noted in my first post that the transmission fan was pretty much gone. Well, the new one came in yesterday, so that was this morning's project. The first step was to remove the fiberglass cover which meant removal of the seat, the transmission pedal, and the 6 bolts holding it down (2 were hidden under the diamond plate). The replacement of the fan was pretty straight-forward, remove the 4 bolts that attach the propeller shaft to the transmission coupling, remove the 2 bolts that attach the fan, and put the new one in.
It works! And moves more air than I thought. If this one breaks, I'm going to look at adapting a similar size (7") aluminum fan, maybe something like this:
