I noted in my first post that the transmission fan was pretty much gone. Well, the new one came in yesterday, so that was this morning's project. The first step was to remove the fiberglass cover which meant removal of the seat, the transmission pedal, and the 6 bolts holding it down (2 were hidden under the diamond plate). The replacement of the fan was pretty straight-forward, remove the 4 bolts that attach the propeller shaft to the transmission coupling, remove the 2 bolts that attach the fan, and put the new one in.

It works! And moves more air than I thought. If this one breaks, I'm going to look at adapting a similar size (7") aluminum fan, maybe something like this:

That sure is a little better. On my G6200, I leave off the panel that covers the HST dipstick. It seems to flow air better without the panel.

Were you as shocked as I was to see that all the power gets transmitted through that plastic disc just forward of the fan?
It took me a few minutes to convince myself that my eyes weren't playing tricks on me.

Yes, I was. That little thing must be pretty tough.

I assume it's designed that way to absorb vibration and allow for slight mis-alignments.

After having my flex coupling explode when i started the tractor, just a couple of days ago, i think its a dangerous design.
Thats certainly the reason for the metal plate right below your crotch on the fender.
My fiberglass fender has a big ***** hole right there and I'm certainly going to fab up
a metal cover for that entire area. I could see that thing exploding and spewing bushings / bolt pieces and fiberglass flex coupling parts
in your face or worse your nads. Its a sucky design and could have been designed much better.
