Hi guys,

Long time absent here...

Still using same tractor DK40 and yesterday while pushing out a mountain of blackberries, a hidden tree root managed to damage the drainage hose and outlet under the radiator, resulting in leaking.

Removed the drainage hose, next job is to remove the radiator so I can give it someplace for repair.

Looks like the radiator fan needs to come out before the radiator itself can be lifted out... can anyone confirm?

I notice hose clamp bolts are difficult to access, but not impossible.

Tony

Not sure how different the CK35 and the DK40 are under the hood but I can say that the radiator on a CK35 can come out without removing the fan, you just have to remove the bolts that hold the fan shroud to the radiator and all the various hose clamps / hoses along with the 2 bolts that actually hold the radiator in at the top.

It's a tight squeeze, takes more than 2 hands, and might require a few "special" words of encouragement ;) but it'll come out.

Hi Fire,

This radiator mounting method is clearly very different, and unnecesarily complicated, but the fan did not have to come off. The shroud pushed back towards the engine, but only just.

Two lower body panels also had to come off, for access to the lower shroud bolts.

The radiator is welded to a frame which is bolted down from below, and will make the radiator repair a nasty job - if at all possible.

Anyway, I succeeded all by myself and gave it a good clean. The Repair Manual I purchased online is useless.

Next, a radiator repair shop.

Unless it has plastic headers, any good rad shop should be able to fix/recore it for you.

Hey Tony,

Sounds like it is a big difference in mounting. Glad you were able to get it out ok. Hope the repair goes well.

Ours was one of the plastic top/bottom styles like Coyote machine referenced. Our crack was in the bottom plastic part at one of the shroud bolts. Luckily it was very small. We cleaned the area good with paint thinner, sanded the area lightly to rough it up, and applied some 2 part epoxy for plastics. So far it's holding ok.

Best of luck.
