I have an old Amerind MacKissic Mighty Mac Shredder. Two of my four tires are shot, and I am replacing them with new ones. The original tires are ribbed, but I will be replacing the two bad ones with knobby tires. I move this machine around with my BCS735, so there is no power to any of the shredder wheels. The question I have is whether I should put the new knobby tires on the steerable front or the fixed back of the shredder. What are your recommendations, and what is your reasoning behind your recommendations. Thank you.

I'm thinking it probably doesn't make much difference, though I prefer getting an experienced person's take on this rather than just assume I have the answer. I sense there may be a slight advantage of having the knobby (studded) tires up front to give it more grab while turning, especially when climbing or descending. Any thoughts on this?

Can you post a picture of this shredder?

It doesn't matter. It's a trailer.

For sure, its a non-powered trailer. Doesn't make a bit of difference.

Thank you. I'm replacing them now and putting both new tires on the front. I could use some help, though. Anyone have an extra block of ice I can sit on? It's 110° in the shade.

I have a 2wd Husqvarna 46" riding mower that I use for pond banks and hills. I have studded snow tires on the front for that very reason. Trailer or not, same principle applies, just pulling rather than pushing and forces acting on the tires are in opposite directions but still there to act. Mine wanted to slide and his is to combat it dragging across the shortest distance in making the turn.

Texasmark, that is what I was thinking, also... based on my long-ago physics classes.

Amazing how the past comes back to haunt you. Grin

I hated English and yet today I still find myself mentally diagramming a sentence and remembering nouns (persons, places, or things), adjectives (descriptive words) and verbs (action words) and get lost in the "dangling participles". Grin #2....LMAO
