Replacing solenoid valves.

My TU155 has the autotill electronics removed and has been fitted with a pair of centre-off toggle switches. If I replace these with a pair of spool valves (to allow proportional control, in place of "fast-as-you-can up / fast-as-you-can down), how wpuld I go about this? Is it as simple as ripping out the existing solenoid valves and plubming in the spool valves?

If it was mine I would put a restrictor in the lines to slow the oil flow down. this would be a fitting with a small hole in it,or adjustable like the knob on the three point hitch.

I could do that, but it still gives me a problem.

When I've got little or no weight on, the 3pt still falls under its own weight (slowly), but lifts real fast.
When I've got a lot of weight on, it moves too fast to be controllable downwards, but is pretty slow up.

If I restrict the lines, I can see it needing weight to lower, and taking a day to raise up under load!

I would like to be able to tweak the 3pt down when the posthole borer is on (and actually get the hole dug with the auger spinning and not just by smashing it into the ground), but still be able to move the 3pt up and down when under lighter load.

I've got a set of spool valves, so there's no additional cost for that bit..

Even with your autotill electronics I would think that there would still be a mechanical control knob for drop speed between your legs and under the seat. Do you have a knob there?

Greetings. I have a TA 247 with a confusing control panel of knobs and small switches next to my seat. I am told it is for a tiller. I have a power down cyll on my 3pt. Do I dare remove the panel and all the knobs and switches? I will never use them and I cant figure out what they all do. I have a lever to raise and lower and also a toggle lever to level the 3pt. Does any of this sound familiar?

Hi Yomax4,

I have my TU155 with its switches. I have bought a set of spool valves (2) appropriate for it and I plan to use the original solenoid valves to give me 4 hydraulic circuits. The left/right tilt is ok as a solenoid valve and a toggle switch, but up/down is a bit crude. When I have the PHD on it (with its additional weight bolted to it) the "down" is severe at best and cataclysmic at worst. I will replace this valve with a spool valve that will offer me some control.

The other spool valve and the (now replaced, up/down) solenoid valve will be piped to two new quick connectors for "future use". They are also going to look into adding an auxiliary hydraulic reservoir, because the amount of oil I need may exceed the integral tank. This will also let me add better hydraulic oil cooling (It gets hot out here so more cooling can't be a bad thing!)

My wife goes on holiday for 2 months (leaves in 10 days), so I'll get it done while she's away. I was told long ago that "Forgiveness is easier to get than permission" and it has always worked for me....
