Has anyone done this? I have heard of tracks on ATV's, trucks, and tractors even. I'm wondering how a UTV handles with a track kit installed?

I imagine a 4X4 UTV with tracks would be about unstoppable in the wintertime! Add a cab and I can't think of a better way to do some woods exploring!

Can you use tracks on other surfaces, like dirt/mud/grass/woodsy areas? Or only in the snow?

I got rid of my snowmobile a few years back because I would only use it a few times a year, and it would just sit all spring, summer, and fall. If you could put tracks on a UTV it would make it more useful in the winter months I imagine, while still being able to use the machine all year long. Probably cheaper than a dedicated snow machine as well.

It can and has been done:will cut your speed and power in half.............also very expensive.

There are both snow only and multi-surface tracks for the Polaris Rangers (I would assume any UTV really). Seem to be quite popular in areas with lots of snow. I would recommend checking a forum specific to UTVs or your particular UTV.

Wow! After spending a few minutes (way more than a few) on YouTube seeing what these things can do, I'm absolutely amazed and very impressed. One of these days I'm going to have to upgrade the golf cart to a REAL UTV!

I watched a couple videos on the subject, really like the idea of tracks on the back, skis on the front, of a UTV. Now Im thinking of skis on the front of my ez-go workhorse.

Tracks will allow you to go nearly anywhere but they have downsides. As mentioned above they will slow you down by about half...you'll be creeping on the trails vs a snowmobile where you're barely cruising at 40. If you turn hard you risk unsesating the track and they are a bear to get back on while you're on the trail. They throw tons of snow, you'll want a cab or you'll be an ice ball after a few miles.

A snowmobile rides better, is faster, and more maneuverable for snow travel. I wanted tracks myself until a friend bought a set for his Polaris, after trying it out I no longer wanted tracks for my Gator. I went the Artic Cat route instead.

You can buy a nice snowmobile for the cost of the tracks on most UTV's. Front tracks must be very hard on the steering also and I couldn't imagine turning one without powersteering
