Thanks to all for the comments. We meet tonight to decide. Yesterday the contractor took us to a similar road he built two years ago and it was really quite nice. Still had loose rock on most of the drive which I understand will eventually work its way into the roadway. I think we will be quite happy with it. FYI - our cost for just under 1/2 mile will be approx. $15,000, and we should save a little on maintenance over time.

Jeff, not sure if we're comparing apples to apples here, maybe you're building a road versus our drive. We paid abot $5K for 1/4 mile about 6 or so years ago. $15K seems a little high, but if they have to bring a lot of base gravel in to get the road looking right before applying the stone, or if you're talking something wider than the 10 ft or so ours is, you're probably in the ball park.
