I lucked onto a speedco downpressure kit for a PHD at tractor supply co. on clearance for $149.00. I was able to adapt it to my Rhino PHD. The pressure side line is no problem, but the return line say's it is to be tapped into the Hyd. system tank (the trans. housing). I understand it,s not under pressure, just flowing back into the housing. My question is..... can I just remove the fluid fill cap at the rear of the tractor and stick the return hose in (no I won't leave it like that for rain to get in) or remove the dip stick and hose clamp the end of the return hose to the raised pipe the dip stick stabs into? I see no other places to allow the oil being pushed out of the downpressure cyl. to go when the 3 pt. is raised. Also anyone here have an opinion on the effectiveness of these downpressure PHD add ons?
THANKS! Jack

Wow, you got one heck of a deal at $149. Was that the complete kit? To do the return line right, it really needs to be so that the fluid will free flow back into the tank and that there is no way that dust, dirt or water can ever get in there. I know that that is going to make it harder to do, but by doing it the right way and not the easy way, there is a far better chance that you won't have problems down the road. There should be some other places on the housing that will allow you to direct return dump back into the sump.

As far as do the down pressure kits really work, YES, they most definitely do work. :D After having a few holes that I could not get dug without having water soak in them for days, I bought a down pressure kit for my PHD. I have not had ANY problems since. I will check sometimes to see if the auger will dig on its own, there have been times when it wouldn't, just hit the down pressure and the hole is dug. I would say that since I have had the down pressure kit, no hole has taken more than a couple of minutes to drill. I usually drill 3-4 feet down, have several sizes of bits, diameter of hole does not make much difference.

One option the guy's with the post driver's use is to get another fill cap from your dealer that fits your tractor, and modify it with a large hose barb fitting. You use this cap only when the PHD is mounted. It's simple, and cheap.
