Don't know what this was but it was in my treeline and was something that attached to a three point hitch. (Think it might have been a one bottom plow). In my eternal vigil of recycling - I welded an old trailer ball to the bottom and I have a trailer hitch I can use on my 3 point. Commercial units sold for this go for $200 so I figured that's what I saved. (The paint was left over from painting my metal roof).

I guess it could have been a plow, but it looks to me like it might have had a blade on it. And while it makes a pretty neat looking trailer hitch, it sure looks like it puts that ball too far behind the tractor. I'd be careful of my tongue weight.

I thought about that when I made it up but thought the worst case was I would exceed my 3 point capacity and wouldn't be able to lift whatever trailer I had on. Is there another potential problem I'm missing? Having the ball that far back actually makes maneuvering (backing) easier and I've had the trailer loaded with manure and been able to lift it without exceeding the 3 point capacity.

Looks like you could add a gauge wheel where that rebar is and not have to worry about tounge weight.

Yup, The eye opening, pulse quickening, short soiling wheelie.

Be sure to keep weight (FEL) on the front of the tractor when towing your trailer. Especially on uneven ground

Actually, there is potential for a load to shift forward while the lift is up, raising the front wheels of the tractor enough to lose steering capabilities. If this were to happen while going down a hill with a curve at the bottom and you tried to use the turn brakes to steer, and it jacknifed the trailer - gee, it's beginning to sound like I've seen this one before. I must admit to this mistake. It got quite exciting for a few seconds. Fortunately, I just ripped the tongue out of the trailer and mangled the hitch attachment on the tractor. I got off with a few bumps. Just make sure your tongue weight cannot make steering dicey, even if the load rolls to the front of the trailer.

Good points and interesting about the guage wheel. Certainly could do that even if I just kept it with light contact. Then if the tongue weight gave me the wheelie problem the wheel would hit first and stop it. BTW - the rebar wasn't there. I put that in with some cement so I could stack weights when not towing to use as a counterweight for loader work. So far taking weight off the front wheels has not been a problem and when towing with a full load (downhill) I don't feel any "lightness" in the front. Of course when loaded I go pretty slow......

An angling rear blade is a possibility. Looks very similar to the hub and top connect of a rotary harrow... like the rodeo use, and we use for our riding arenas.

I think SOundguy might be on to something with the rotary harrow idea. I have attached a picture of one. Looks pretty similar.
