(B2620, had BX22) Simplicity Legacy w/48" mmm
I'm still thinking some about mowing with my B2620. I got a quote from my dealer for a 60" mmm, and it was $2410.00 installed with delivery / pickup. Everyone says the RFM's are much cheaper, what can I expect to pay for a Woods / Landpride quality RFM? One other question, 600+ pounds on those small wheels seems like a lot. (more than the total weight of many riding mowers) Does anyone have problems with them in softer soils, or marking normal soils?

I paid closer to $1650 for my Rhino 60'' RFM. And it weighs nowhere near 600 pounds. Maybe 250...

Thanks for the quick reply Mike. I may head out in a bit to see what is available in this area.

Chuck, I've got an older 60" Landpride RFM and I can tell you it is built like a tank. I'd say 600lbs is a good estimate on the weight. I'm not sure I could bend it if I intentionally backed into trees. I would say that marks on your lawn will be a product of how you mow. If you mow going forward all the time, and curve around obstacles, you won't have any problems with tire marks on the lawn. If you have alot of obstacles to mow around, and end up going back and forth to mow around them, the tires are going to dig into the lawn where the casters are trying to turn around. I'm very happy with the job my rear mower does, and its painless to get on and off. All that being said, I always have my eyes open for a nice used belly mower for my tractor (I'm too poor to buy a new one) since its my goal in life to have a strong collection system on my tractor......... because out of all the chores i do, raking is probably the one I dislike the most. On a side note...... I've seen some mint used RFMs on Craigslist lately, for short money (if you don't mind a slightly used mower).

Thanks for the input Ductape. RN Johnson has the new Landprides locally. Townlineequipment.com is a place to look for a mmm for yours. They had a few used ones the last time I was there, and I can't tell you if they were 60", or 72", perhaps both. They are proud of their used stuff sometimes, but worth talking to if you see something you need. Plainfield is just below West Lebanon. I hear you on the collection system, and won't part with the one on my Simplicity until I have something better.

Yeah, if you actually come across a 250# RFM - steer clear. It's probably made of recycled soup cans. My 84" First Choice for example, weighs in at 816#. And the four 5x13 tube-type tires handle the weight just fine. When you think about it, that's only 204# per corner. Closer to what you're looking for, their 60" version weighs 432# and rides on 4x11 tube tires; 108# per corner.

I recently bought a "used" RD-60 Woods finishing mower that is rear mount. List new was $2250, selling new in a crate new was quoted at $1750 and i bought this one off of Craig's List for $1,100. It was used 3 times and deemed to be too heavy for a BX Kubota. It weighs in at 515 pounds and it was pulling his BX sideways down the hill when he was mowing so he traded it back to the dealer after 3 mowing attempts. The dealer had it advertised on Craigs List. Works great on my B7800.
