So I've got a JD3320, and I need a new rotary cutter, as I just killed my old Rhino SE5 (c.1995). I've got 33hp to work with and I'm looking at the Rhino 160 which will work with my current tractor or the Rhino 260 which is rated for a min 35hp... I'll be cutting about 8 acres of grass down here in hill country, with the occasional sapling... The cost difference is about $700, and I'd like to save money and go with the 160 that will work better with my tractor (33hp).
So what do you guys think? 160 or go for the more HD cutter?
Thx,
Matt

Stuff always lasts longer if you put less horsepower through it than it was designed for...so you decide. What's your priorities? If you keep the cutter for ten years $700 more isn't really a whole lot extra/year. At the end of ten years the heavier machine will probably still be worth more too.

I think the Rhino 160 would be plenty of cutter for your tractor.Rhino makes well built cutters in all series, standard, medium and heavy duty.

If you're just cutting a sapling every now and then, the 160 will be plenty strong. If you're going to abuse your cutter, get the 260 if your tractor has enough weight and HP to handle it.

I've got the 172 and it's a really nice cutter and is very well built.
