Just curious. I had a customer come in the other day and asked if I knew where he could get parts for an Artic Cat Tractor. He said he called the toll free number on the owner's manual and it said the line had been disconnected. I told him that I knew of these type tractors and they went under several names. Rhino(came in here in the 70's), Allied, Farm Pro, Artic Cat, Nor Trac and maybe they are known as Johnson Tractors I don't know. My question is this. Does a company or companies somewhere in the US change the name on these tractors every year or so to keep the public confused or are they different chinnese mfg? Is Artic Cat still in Bus. Someone educate me.

The last I heard Artic Cat was a snowmobile not a Chinese tractor brand.

BTW, Welcome back to TBN

I think maybe you mean Agricat. They were a Chines tractor brand once. Rebadged Jinma painted green and yellow.

weren't they using some LG units as well?
The Artic Cat made me think of Bombardier, I thought they had a small CUT at some point.

Arctic Cat makes Atvs and Snowmobiles.

You are probably thinking of Agra Cat tractors.

I know that a Farm Pro dealer by my house has used the "Farm Pro" name on the tractors for at least 2 years straight in a row. He is STILL using the name this year also. Maybe it is not up to him to use the name or not. It is probably up to Homier, the distributor.

Anybody can import a tractor and badge it how ever they want. Some of them are one importer/dealer shops, and then there are some nationals such as Nortrac and Farm Pro. As with any small business venture, a lot of them go bankrupt, including AgraCat.

A lot of the one shop operations don't rebadge and simply sell them as Jinma, or Dong Feng.

Not a lot different than the Mazda Navajo (Ford Explorer), Freightliner Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter), Ford Probe (Mazda 626).

An even closer analogy are the dozens of names thet MTD uses to sell garden tractors.

Difference is, with an engine ID plate, the independent Chinese tractor dealers will bend over backwards to help you identify your machine and get parts. Try getting a Mercedes dealer to cross reference a Freightliner Oil Filter.

Actually, the Sprinter is made by Freightliner, and has a Mercedes-benz powertrain and is sold by Dodge. All owned by Daimler Chrysler.

Freightliner has a big enough plant/tools/machines to manufactre the Sprinter but since there are no real Freightliner dealers they sell it through Dodge dealers.

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifMaybe I'm not understanding what you mean, but I'm sure most of know where there are Freightliner dealers. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I think your right Bird, I just sold my Freightliner and they have dealers in all large towns.

Sorry Degree, wrong on both counts.

Freightliner sold sprinters through selected Freightliner dealers for the 2002, 2003, and 2004 model year. Some Dodge dealers sold the 2004 model year product as a dodge product. For 2005 models, they will only be available through Dodge dealers.

The 2002/2003 sprinter is a 100% Mercedes product. The cargo versions were shipped in parts and assembled in the US. The passenger versions were shipped assembled. Now that mine is two years old, I haven't followed the last two model years as closely.

Engine filters are all mercedes parts, however, a Mercedes dealer doesn't have the access to cross reference a Freightliner part number.

So, I go to my Mercedes dealer with the mercedes part number and don't tell them it's for a sprinter.

With 50,000 miles on my spirnter, been there done that.

The point I was making in the original post was that cross-referencing chinese parts is a lot easier than getting the info on more mainstream vehicles.
