I just use an engine hoist that I had in the garage... adjustable, maneuverable, and I already had it. Perfect!

I like your idea. Haven't heard of that use. Can find used engine hoists that are fairly cheap. Can lift it up and down. Mobile.

I sure like that idea of using an engine hoist to hold my PH Digger. Just picked one up off Craigs List for $80......wheels hydraulics lift and all. Thinking of using one for my tiller too as it gives me lots of storage problems. Lots of used cherry pickers out there for about $100 or so. Cheaper than making something similar.
