All, I'm having a problem. I have a post hole digger attached to my 186D. Howsomeever, when I use it, I have to be OFF the tractor, guiding the auger as I lower it to the correct spot for digging, (the leveling bar on 99% of all post hole diggers is on the RIGHT side of the head) and since the little 186D can't dig a hole in my clay in one "fell swoop", I have to keep lifting the auger out of the hole, stopping the PTO, and cleaning the auger, then lowering it back in. Needless to say, running around the tractor all the time to activate the clutch to start/stop the PTO.. I'm getting crippled, tired, and it ain't just right. Sooooo... has anyone fabricated an auxillary clutch pedal/lever whereby the clutch can be depressed/released while standing on the RIGHT side of the tractor? Y'see, I can't get into the tractor at all from the right side since I installed my Koyker loader.

Pogo,
I mean no disrespect and remember fondly the characters from the swamp in the early 70's. Most people today have no idea the sage advice and political viewpoint from that strip, but please check the following url.

Last fall I dug about 400 2-3ft deep holes with a 9" auger on my FX18D. My property is on hardpan with numerous rocks, mostly fist size to head size. I found the trick to getting the hole where I wanted it was to loosen the soil under the auger by hand with a digging bar and removing the rocks in the top 6". The auger could then scew itself straight in when I put power to it. Subsequent rocks were brought to the surface and so long as it had the loosened soil to key into it went pretty much straight down. If I didn't loosen the soil first it would skate two or three feet before digging in.

Manually guiding a rotating auger sounds very dangerous to me. There is a lot of power there to get caught up in.
