Well I took the one wheel that will go flat randomly into the tire shop and I get a phone call that says rim is shot. I go by and look and with the tire broken from the bead is a mass of delaminated rim, decayed rubber liner. It is a mess. When I went to order rim, I look at tire and see 11.2 - 28. When I go online to order rims...I see that some sell 9-28 rims and 10-28 rims say they will work with 11.2 - 28 tires. I have heard the rule of thumb that you use the rim 1 inch less than the spec, but wanted to see what you guys thought.

Also, I've noticed some rims come with a rubber liner. Is this for tubeless applications or does it protect the inner tube. My tires are in great shape...they say "Not for tubeless application". Should I spend the extra money on the rubber lined tube? I'd like to order today if possible.

So...what size rim for 11.2 - 28 and do I get the rubber lined rim or not.

Are your old rims hat style rims? the old hat rims had a thin sheet metal cover over a channel. that thin sheet metal sometimes rusts out. That by itself doesn't mean the rim is junk. LOTS of us have repaired that. by just tacking new metal in after derusting. smooth sharp edges, then paint.

Your tire dealer may be used to car rims or new tractor rims and simply doesn't know what he is looking at.

post some rim pics for us.

your 11.2-28 tire used to be called a 10-28 tire.

what is your other rim?

I assume other rim is the same. Hat style, do you mean a full circle that sits on a solid ledge instead of the newer loop style? Trying to upload pics, but cloud not cooperating. I am trying to find a local blasting place, or truck rim repair place, but I can get new loop style for $110......plus shipping....unless those old rims are rare or something, I don't know if it's worth the work for me to clean them up, weld them and paint them.

Yup, hat is old, loop is new, hat are more rare

Will the hat style center fit on a loop style? Am I making a mistake by not restoring the old ones? Are they worth anything to anyone if they are salvageable? I hate to take the time to get all that done for a "worker" tractor with bad tins anyway.

the hat (solid ) center will fit hat ( channel ) rims, or loop rims. the new scaloped center will fit hat or loop rims.

many collectors like the hat rims.

if you repalce yours for loop rims.. you might be able to sell the unrepaired hat rims to a local collector for a few bucks, and let them deal with the hassle of re-habbing them.

Should get you some gass money with no work done.

Soundguy....quick question...got my new rims and they are all mounted...even in the right direction. Only problem is the guys went to town on the old rims and really tore them up getting old tire off. I ordered all new rim bolts as I broke off half of the old ones getting the discs off the center. The new bolts were assured to work with the loop rims, but I have two concerns. First is they are 2-3/4 length which means they fit...with the nut running flush with the top of the bolt but that is WITHOUT a lock washer. I know since they are steel discs, there's really no need for a conventional washer because the disc is in effect a washer. With the 18 thread count, do I need a lock washer? Also, looks like they are just regular zinc (Grade 3 because there are no hash marks). Tractor Supply sells an identical bolt for this purpose, but is a TISCO and I know you say TISCO stuff is Junk. Looked around and even Fastenal doesn't carry grade 8 carriage bolts. Trying Another local tractor place today. Are these bolts ok? What torque is good? Monkey torque on an 18inch breaker bar with a cheater pipe, or is there a spec?

THanks...tim

I run plain ungraded carriage bolts on mine, no lockwashers either. Tight plus a grunt.

Check them after the first couple times you run them.

Thanks...Turns out after I ran around town looking for longer hardenend fasteners.....I found out the bolts sold with rim have room for a regular flat washer once I got it all the way seated...it was sitting a little proud when I tried the fit before. Some of the holes look 62 years old and are a little fugly.........hence the flat washer.....Looks like I might be out to the farm to bushhog (finally) on Tues. Soundguy, thanks for the typically practical information! I would have been lost without this board.
