Ring & pintle hitch question

   / Ring & pintle hitch question #21
I was at lions back when the group flipped over the backside; closing it for good. Ive done it a bunch, been going to moab for years. Until I got sent to fun Arabic speaking countries repetitively, I hadn't missed an EJS in 13 years. Pritchet would be tricky with a trailer to say the least. We did the triple threat with it, only minor issues. Did cliffhanger, before the road, and Moab Rim with it.

Weight distribution makes no difference. .

It does when the trailer is putting up pressure on the hitch. Weight distribution makes a lot of difference.

Well you might actually have a need for on doing a multi day camping trip along Moab Rim.

I thought Lion's back was closed because someone else bought it. I had a friend doing something really really stupid drive off the side of that thing but lucky for him he was only about 30' from the bottom when he did it. Still it totalled the brand new truck. He stood it right up on it's nose.
I wouldn't get within a hundred miles of that place during EJS. It turns into a circus and a zoo all rolled into one. Just after labor day or just before Memorial day are good times. Before or after all the amateurs start driving prices up.

There are different size pintle hooks and rings, If you put a small ring on a large hook there is a lot of slop. It is safe but has a lot of play and clanks around. If you get a properly matched hook and ring there is not much play., Many hooks are large to accept a large diameter ring. Not diameter of the circle but diameter of the material. If you put a think ring on a big hook it has a ton of slop.

That seems exactly right. I bought a heavy duty ring for my trailer to match the hook I found and there was very little clearance between the two. I think the ring was rated at 20,000 but there was possibly 1/8 gap on both sides.

I pulled a tandem axle trailer with not much tongue weight so it had a tendency bounce, but for ten years there was never any noise or jerking from a sloppy hitch.
