Rings on a Honda GCV190LA

Hi,

I am refurbishing a Honda GCV190LA and have a new set of rings. I haven't looked closely at the new set, but is there a up and down orientation for the rings and is there a difference between the top and second ring?

OK, looking at the two compression rings, on the chrome ring, I don't see a dot/dash on it, but there is the letter "T" stamped on one side.

The other ring is reddish and it also has a "T" stamped on one side of it.

I take it then that the chrome ring would be the top compression ring with the "T" facing the top of the piston, and that the reddish ring would be the second from the top with the letter "T" facing the top of the piston.

Also I would take it that the oil scraper rings have no top or bottom to them.

This engine was run without oil, not by me, and the top crank bearing (the AL crankcase) melted and sized the engine. I replaced the engine on the mower and keep the bad engine and am attempting to repair it. I enlarged the top journal and put a bronze oil-lite bearing on the crank. The bottom journal was OK.

Correct. You just have to be sure that the ends don't line up with the cutout at the piston pin. I see these top bearings hogged out from time to time due to lack of lube. Good deal.:thumbsup:
