Ok the smaller is a the largest R4 and the big one is an average R5 from another quarry.

I thought the sizes were standardized in PA? I can't grab hold of these with the hoe and thumb to place them in the creek. I am going to attempt to ratchet strap rubber mats to the teeth to get some grip, what do you all think?

My local quarry (Luck Stone) in VA sizes rip rap at 4-24"

Same company, but quarrying in NC, offers it in Grade 1, 5-17" and Grade 2, 9-23"

Wife's upset that it won't look even and consistent. I have a feeling I am pulling the small stuff off the faces of the culvert and the outlet of my pipe, moving down along the length of my yard, and placing the boulders over and around my bridge and the neighbors.

My bridge with 12" stones and the neighbors with an overall height of at least 8' from the bottom of his pipe.

Ok now for a better explanation. I ordered R4 from one company last summer when I installed the bridge. Most stones were 8 to 12" maximum length. That company can't deliver residential loads right now because they are too busy with other work.it. I had trouble during a large storm last year when the water was high and flowing fast and some of the R4 moved last year. I called the other stone company and asked for R5 because I thought the next size up would move less when the water first hit it.

After the driver dropped them at the end of my lane I called the quarry and said I didn't think they were even close to the size for R5's. They sent their quality control guy out and we talked for a while. When he pulled down the hill he saw my smaller stone in the creek and new I didn't get what I was expecting. He said they would collect some basketball size stone and bring it out. Maybe tomorrow and sorry I couldn't use the other stone. Asked if I had a friend that had an electric jackhammer, haha. I have to use the other stone somewhere....it's sitting in my driveway. These stones are like 3 times up in size and my creek isn't going to accept them easily. Not sure what to do and don't know if the stone they are bringing tomorrow is going to cost me another $350???

I can't mov.e this stuff easily and a friend told me I need a bigger tractor. Wife didn't giggle that much at that one. She loves when I tell her should be $750 for material and it's over a grand!!!

Did you guys ever have stone hauled back? I don't want to ask them to do it but unless I am creative, this is going to end up an eyesore.

Put the stone you can't /won't use on Craigslist. It'll get gone.

I'm sorry to say, but material does change from quarry to quarry. Although you'll take a loss on the material, I'd second the Craigslist deal.

Had them bring another load today, this time the size was more in line with what I expected.

The huge ones are going to be used to support where I am raising the driveway, so now I won't have to be rid if them. Wife is not a big fan of the almost 40 toms of stone at the end of our driveway.

Not only does it vary quarry to quarry, but with stone of this size, there is often a lot of segregation within a single stockpile.
