I want potentially 4 more devices that might benefit from this.

A post hole digger, a trencher, a stump grinder and a tiller.

When I did the math before it made more sense to buy PT's than to buy a PTO device as many were not less...

But yes, I have considered this system as well. Also, 350lbs for the 3pt PTO driver plus another 1000 for the chipper put me out of my lift window...

grumble...

DR makes a 4.5" (instead of 6") 3-pt chipper that might work for you, but it's more money than the Chinese ones.

Truth is I need a vernner 12" at a minimum. But 6 to 10K used... Ouch...

It takes a LONG time to justify the buy versus rent when you get into bigger equipment...

When I cleared my lot, what I ended up doing was piling up a huge brush pile using a midsize excavator, a small dozer and my PT, after we'd cut the timber off it. (I actually had to do some clearing for "trails" and so I could mark trees prior to the timbering.) Then I hired (i.e. rented) a big tub grinder -- and they chipped in about 10 hours what would've taken days and days with even a 12" chipper. For about $5K total (including bringing the small dozer back to make sure the grinder stayed busy), I ground up a brush pile close to 100'x30'... now all I have to do is spread the chips/mulch that they piled up.

Hey! For less than that you could get an outdoor wood furnace and use the wood to heat the house for free. With 12" and under you would not even need to split it. Just cut it into 3' lengths.

Or I can burn for free. Figure we have 2 more years before they stop that practice. I have one of those huge brush piles and it is getting bigger. Next fall I will burn it I guess.

You know how they did fires in smaller castles in europe? They just cut down a tree, trimmed it up and slowly fed the whole thing into fireplace. The trees would extend out the front door until it burned far enough to shut the door...
