Absolutely correct. The key is the maximum distance from both sides of a center point of blade contact to terra firma. Makes little difference whether it is at a center point beneath a tractor with 96" between wheel bases or behind a tractor on a three point floating with the same center point. Take a blade and put a "rider" wheel off the back and you'll be amazed at the eveness you'll get from a driveway. Anything to remove the up and down repetition of the tractors travel results in a smooth outcome.

Yea that's what I was getting at!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Gauge wheel and toplink adjustment and let the 3pt float.
Gets rid of the washboard.

The grader has worked far ahead of all expectations. I've put a lot of hours in using it. It takes only a pass or two for a well crowned and even gravel roadway. The local excavators have me do their drives when I have the time, and word of mouth side jobs seem to be endless. Used in conjunction with the hydraulic top link its a breeze to drag feather and flatten. The shoes seem to provide a good constant reference point left to right when doing wide areas such as parking lots and such. If I were to do another the only change I would make is to extend the overall length, ie: greater distance between front cutting edge and rear blade assy.

Here is another style of grader that doesn't look like it would be too hard to duplicate:
