Rake Road Maintenance with an ATI Preseeder (Harley Rake)

On the things I've learned here front. Someone, I think FarmwithJunk? mentioned a pulverizer as doing a good job of maintaining a dirt road. So now that I've got a Preseeder (same thing as a harley rake) and have to redo my driveway, I thought I'd try it.

Wow does it work well. Puts the box blade/york rake combo I was using to shame, and I was pretty happy with that combo. Even Crusher run seems to give it no pause - just a perfectly smooth road (though with golf ball dimples that I think will help with erosion)

I can see being really happy with the preseeder. Which is good, because even though I bought it well used it was on the pricey side.

Do you have before and after pics? Or even pics of the current results.

The Preseeder type of impliment appears to have a wide range of uses and I am a huge beleiver in tools that have multiple uses.

I am also wondering what you thought of how it felt using it on such rough terrain?

I suck at before and after, but will take some after shots. The thing really is as great as people have said. Though I still don't understand completely why so pricey.

Not sure what you mean by "felt using it"?

I should say its a good idea to use it while the ground is damp-ish, unless you enjoy working in enormous dust clouds.

It would seem that hitting rough surface with a toothed impliment at high speeds, might make for a rough ride...

I would agree on the price, it would almost seem like something that could be made just as strong for much cheaper.

One of the different features of this vs the Harley and LandPride is the rear roller.
It carries some of the weight of the tiller and they claim it packs down the tilled soil enough to walk or drive on for subsequent seeding, and of course it leaves dimples.

The Harley and LandPride claim that with independent gauge wheels at the back it is possible to grade slopes, cut drainage swales, etc.

The LandPride adjustment is via spacer collars, so might be a bit easier to reset to level or tilt to a known/repeatable angle.

The Harley has pinch bolts around caster wheel masts, operated with levers so you don't need tools.
I don't know how easy it would be to get exact level or an exact repeatable tilt with the Harley, though I suppose a fastidious owner might carry a few gauge blocks around ?

Anyone else notice these differences ?

Yeah I've noticed MANY differences not only between Harley/Land Pride, but from various years/models/etc.. from both mfg's as well...The price point is what got me to building my own and I'm well on my way. About 75% done building it actually..IMO I'm combining what I think are the best features from all the models & brands and rolling em into my own design. I'll be WAYYYYY under even the price of a "used up" Harley...

Lets see those construction pictures. After the hitch modification I think I could have built a frame. Just finished 4 1/2 acres with the rake and it did a good job. Tons of stones removed and I can cut it with a finish mower without all the low spots.
