Roadside litter

I once worked on a project here in KY mapping Illegal dumps, we always worked with someone from the local health dept. On one particular day we found an illegal dump and the fella from the health dept tore a bag open and found an address. We drove to their home and he threatened the folks with cleaning up the entire dump site if their garbage wasn't removed immediately. The lady that answered the door laid the blame on her son, she probably told him to dump it there, but the bags were gone the next day, too bad the rest of it wasn't.
People who litter are lazy!

Trash in the ditches is common here too /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif. Just this month we had a stove, tv, and several bags of household trash dumped along our road.

We can only put out 1 30 gallon can a week. Any more requires a "garbage tag" for each additional can or bag. The City will not pick up yard waste either so the city dwellers bring their leaves, branches and lawn clippings out and dump them in the ditches as well. This wouldn't be so bad except they leave them in the plastic bag /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif.

I went home at lunch once to grab my checkbook, wasn't there 3 minutes but in that time someone dumped a sofa in the middle of our lane. No respect for other peoples property.

I know a fellow who dumped his garbage in the same ditch where others had dumped theirs and made the mistake of including some papers with his name and address on them. The deputy sheriff explained the fines to him if the garbage wasn't cleaned up, and since the only identification on the garbage was his, they'd assume it was all his./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif He cleaned it all up./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Happens in So. Md too. Though the best story was from one of the garbage company's doing same. They were collecting trash and then dumping it (whole truck full) back some abandoned lane. I guess they thought it was a good way to avoid tipping fees. Police found it, opened up bags, found addresses, went to people, found company, arrested company and fined same. How stupid can they be??? Fortunately I have about 20' of frontage, so my issues are fairly minor./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Know what you mean about back lanes etc..
Tire dumping on some of our back dirt roads are a big thing know. /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif
When looking into the woods as you drive along and see a couple of big truck tires..or come upon from 2 to 6 tires drop beside the road etc.. it does P O me..and I don't mean Post Office either, all because somebody didn't want to pay $5.00 per tire to the landfill.

The pavement (such as it is) on our road ends about 100 feet past our driveway and there's much garbage thrown out, including tires, furniture, etc. along the road the next mile and a half./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Not sure about you guys in other states, but here in Oregon they impose a 5 cent deposit on many cans and bottles. Makes people think a bit before tossing out the window. Some people complain (bottlers, stores, etc...) I traveled through other states that don't impose this and notice a difference in roadside trash (wish they could do this with cigarrete butts). Personally, I have always liked this deposit, and the kids are more than helpful when it's time to cash in at the store and I let them keep the $$$.

Patrickg

If that scares you, I'm not going to mention the time she chased down the kid that pealed out in front of her at an intersection and threw a rock into her windshield. Didn't know a Ford Escort could go that fast.

Litter is just a joke. The )(&(*&()*^&(&*^&^(*^(^ people that go to nice places to enjoy the view and then leave their crap there need to be shot.

The cigarette butt ones are the worst. They just assume it is their god given right to throw their butts anywhere they choose.

Ferals, that is all they are.

We have a beautiful beach camping spot only 2 hours from here that has been abused by ferals who leave all their rubbish there. Car parts, fuel drums, plastic, beer cans - It is a joke. Not to mention all the toilet paper and you know what else that is lurking underneath.

Real shame as the area will be closed soon due to the ferals.

Some of you may remember the problem I have had with people dumping trash down at the bridge on the county road that is at the corner or my property... Well the county Judge and I have been doing a pretty good job of shutting down most of the dumping... This last week the county put up a new "NO DUMPING" sign.. well it made it a week and someone tore it down this weekend... And I mean tore it down the metal from the sign was still in the bracket.....

The last day of gun deer season, (you country folks know what I mean), my wife and I went down to check the hay field there at the bridge. We parked at the end of the bridge and walked the field, came back along the fence line down to the bridge. While standing down on the bank just above the bridge, a new shiney late model truck pulls up to the middle of the bridge and stops the driver reaches over and picks up a box of trash and throws it out into the creek. I could not beleive that someone would do that, and with my truck parked at the end of the bridge... He never saw us till after he throw out the box, but I could not get up to the road in time to get his license plate number.....
