I am considering a Rock bucket for separating rocks, pine needles and other debris from the dirt. Looks like a great implement. Anyone have any good experiences with one. Anything negative or something to watch out for in selecting one?

I'm also looking for one to clean up all the rocks on my property. I need a smaller unit, because my tractor isn't very big. Even so they are very expensive, especially if you go with a bar finger unit. I'm having my buddy that owns a fab shop see what he could build me one for..

I haven't talked to anyone who has one, I would like to know what finger spacing they would suggest..

I would be interested in what you find..

Hello skidoo, I have a 66" badco rock bucket. I have a 790 JD w/ 300 loader. Its a bit heavy, 525 lbs. I believe, with 3" spacing bar finger stile. the wieght of the bucket takes away from the amount of material you are collecting. It works rather good for pickn rocks, sticks other stuffs 3'' and over. If you rip the ground with a box scraper after a pass or two with the rock bucket you really clean up. It even works O.K cleaning up staw or pine needles to a point. There just has to be a good "layer" of needles, staw to get the bucket under to work. Use as a rake in float position going backwards with bucket angled down works to pile stuff to get bucket under too..

As you may already know, Virnig makes a rock bucket for compact tractors that is not as heavy. A 54" bucket was/is $900 and that includes a quick attach skid steer mount.

Sorry, I don't know. It was at the dealer when I decided to purchase. It looked like what I wanted, so I just said add the rock bucket to the order. I'll have to check and post back later...

I needed to reseed the pastures but had alot of sandstone rocks. I priced out the JD rock bucket at $1800. So I said the heck with that and built one useing 1 inch round stock and some 3 x 3 angle. Its only as wide os the FEL arms but worked good. The spacing on the round stock was 2 1/2 inches but should have been 3 or more.

Good job! Is that what they mean - "Necessity is the mother of invention" - when somebody quotes you $1,800...
