Well, here are the first pictures of my "Rock project" for this year. Used my BX 2350 to push, pull, and lift them into place. This was about a 4 day project to get to this stage. Still have a few more rock to move, but weather is too wet for that now.

As a reference, the chain link fence is 5 ft. tall. There is a dry wash going through our property that has washed out most of the dirt at this corner of the fence. I'm hoping that this will put a stop to the erosion at this corner. Some of these rocks I would guess weigh around 1,000 to 1,200 pounds. Couldn't lift them, but BX sure did a great job of moving them around. I'll be driving some 1/2 inch rebar into the ground about 4 ft. to keep the rocks from moving when the water starts to run. I also recut the lowest part of the dry wash to HOPEFULLY redirect the flow of water away from the fence.

If the rocks start to move when there is water, then they are only moving because the soil under them is being cut out. The solution to this is to dig a hole and bury the first row in the ground. Almost totally in the ground would be the correct amount. The second course would be buried a little less, etc. The goal is to get the water to hit the rock and not have an opportunity to undermine the rock.

The idea is to use the rocks to secure the bank AND ALSO to divert the water AROUND the rocks. I have recut the lowest part of the ditch in MORE of a straight line to hopefully keep the water away from the rocks. also, there will be MORE rocks put in the area as I uncover them while clearing the last 1/2 acre of our land.

More pictures will follow, and FINAL pictures when done.

Nice looking rocks, wish I had some where I live. My fear is always what lives in and under anything on the ground, so I'd add loose gravel inside the cracks just to keep snakes out. Might also help with weeds and any potential washout.

Eddie,

That is the idea I have, too. When done with the rocks, I plan to put some of the 15 cu.yds. of top soil I have piles up into the spaces between rocks. I'm not in a BIG hurry to get it done, just hope I can finish before we get another downpour of rain. Weeds won't be a problem. It is called "weed eater" or "Roundup".:2cents:
