I recently purchased King Cutter 5' Tiller from TSC and quickly put it to use. It did a great job on my garden which is rock free.

This past weekend I tilled up a portion of the yard to re-seed and ran into a few small rocks. After I was finished tilling, I was amazed to see about a half dozen small bumps in top of tiller and paint cracked off which must have been caused by the rocks being thrown against the top. Has anyone had a similar problem with their King Cutter or another brand? The King Cutter appears to be well built so I was very surprised. The bumps really don't affect it's operation and are not real noticeable other than paint missing.

You bought a KK that was PAINTED?!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I wouldn't worry about a little paint chip with a KK. All of their equipment is painted by kindergartners and it won't last anyway. Just be glad they build them pretty strong so the metal isn't broken! John

The rotatiller and rocks. Mine, a different make , has been through the rock wars these past few years. Broken chain, lots of broken tines and the backplate support holes worn through but no dents on the top.

Just for information I have found removing the back plate may reduce rock damage. Also removal of some tines appears to have helped me.

In the attached picture, which many here have seen, is a pile of rocks which have been dug up by the diller and then picked.

A few dents gives it more character. Till on! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have the same tiller AND the same problem. My tiller has LOTS of rock hits on it. I guess one day I will have to buy a landscape rake. I have heard, like the suggestion above, that removing the back door will ease this problem somewhat. Just keep the family and pets away from the garden when doing this :~>.

Yep, dents probably happen to all makes. ground engaging implements take alot of abuse and it would take as much time maintaining them as it does to use them to keep them looking new.

Now that's a classic answer. What makes it so funny, is that it's so true. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Guys...thanks for all the input and appears to be normal and I like the adding character comment. Thank goodness I don't have to deal with rocks like Egon or I would have just bought a jack hammer instead.

The TSC where I bought the KK has everything under roof so that's probably why it still has paint /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
