I have a 1982 Model 165d. It was delivered to the original owner with a frame-mounted backhoe and no roll bar, and that backhoe has never been removed. There was no roll bar when I purchased the tractor from the original owner.

I live in a city that cannot be reached by road and therefore freight and postage is often expensive. A roll bar, said to be from a John Deere 655, is advertised for sale locally right now. Does anyone know if it that might be adapted by the 165d with or without the backhoe?

do you live in this country? Alaska? "cant be reached by road"!!!!

Cant help on the roll bar? Maybe call Hoye tractor and see if they know, they are the source of all the aftermarket bars now a days.

Thanks for the input. Yes, Alaska has many towns that cannot be reached by road. By the way, for my 165d, which was produced in Japan for the US market, I have yet to find a good source of parts. I have both a repair manual and a parts manual so I have the right part numbers, and I doubt that Hoye's website has 10 percent of the parts I would like to buy. Still, this little tractor is better designed and made, and more reliable, than any other device on tracks or tires I have ever owned or operated, so I have never been unable to operate on account of lack of a good parts source. Here on the saltwater coast, Yanmar marine vendors have been the best source of supplies.

It turned out that the roll bar, reported to be from a JD 655, either fits exactly or will fit without much alteration. Wrong color though. :)

A rear-mount, side-discharge finish mower came with it. It's about 50 inches wide, has 3 belt-driven mowers. It's yellow in color and the gear drive was made by Peerless. I would guess the mower came with the JD 655 (which I have never seen). I don't know the brand of the mower (unless there is a Peerless brand).

The mower has seen extensive use but it is not all bent and beat. The roll bar looks new. For $50 loaded in my truck I have no complaints!
