For those of you that put lights on your roll bars, how did you wire them? I wired mine to the molex connector that is right by the right flasher. Works great except the lights are one when ever the key is on. Also if the lights are on when I hit the glow plugs I burn the main 30 amp fuse. If I wire to the battery which would be the best then I take the chance of leaving the lights on when the tractor is not running. I could put a DC relay in the circuit to cut the lights when the key is off which would be the best but I was just wondering how every one else wired theirs in.

murph,
Put a switch inline before you run to the lights. That feed is hot all the time that the key is on.
Turn key on, if lights are on, shut them off then start it.

Yeah I did have a switch but I got on the tractor tonight and forgot I had it on. So when I hit the glow plugs I popped the fuse.

I wired a rear light to the connectro left at the bottom of the rops which is also 'hot' when the lights are on.. except that I used a light that also had a built in switch.. so i hav ethe option of not havint it on.. etc. The addition of a waterproof switch will solve your problem with little added wireing.

What's wrong with me. I have the switch in there, I'm in the Heating and Air Conditioning business, I know I have these time delays on my service shelfs, just put a time delay in there for 30 seconds!!!! Or just remember to turn them off if one before starting. But with the time delay you would not have to worry about someone else getting on the tractor and blowing the fuse.

I ran a dedicated 8 guage wire from the battery to a relay, and a switch, and then up the ROPS. I am however running 4 lights from it, I didn't want to mess with the factory wiring in any way.

murph,
Take a look at this crude schematic........think this would work?
When you want lights......flip switch and then push the momentary puhbutton. That energizes the coil and the lights come on, they stay on until the tractor is shut down or the switch is turned off. They can be turned off at any time by turning your switch off, but if you forget to flip it off, whenever the key is turned off, it de-energizes the relay.

Inspector,

That looks like it would work pretty good. I did look for a time delay relay as said before down at work but they only went as low as 18 volts DC. Your schematic looks like it would work pretty good. I already have the momentary switch.

Thanks

Murph,

You mentioned that you connected to the "Molex" connector located with the wiring of the right flasher. I have had a heck of a time finding a mating connector. Every connector I have purchased is either slightly too fat, or too short. I am presently using two bullet crimps that push into the connector. I have inquired at my dealer for the mating connector, but they had nothing to match, in fact, they were surprised the connector was there. Can you tell me where you got yours? Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif for any help you throw my way.

Boomer,

I found mine at NAPA. But mine too is not the right size. It works ok but it is not a tight fit like I would like it. I have ran tape around it to make a tight seal so moisture won't get into it. Even with the tape I am sure moisture will get in it. The thing I may try is buy a flat 4 way and just cut two barbs off of it. The 4 way seems to be just the right size.
