My first tractor and thank God I was not hurt. It happened so fast a slope soft ground and then the roll. I attempted to use the outrigger on the backhoe to lift the tractor upright. White smoke and a run away engine occured I removed the key. The time from the flip to shut down was less than 45 seconds. I pulled the suburban over and used a chain to the frame of the tractor to stand the tractor upright again. When I tried to start the tractor it would not turn over. I popped the hood moved the harmonic pully a 1/16 rotation counter clockwise and a1/16 clockwise freehand. It has been 4 hours after my 4 attempt the glow lights preheat engine remains unwilling to turn over. I purchased this tractor with 30 hours I now have 38 hours on it.
I am worried of what damage may have happened and what I should try to do next. curtolson2003@yahoo.com

When you say "Won't turn over", do you mean it tries to turn over, but won't, or "nothing at all"?

If you can move the crank at all, it's not stuck. I've seen it happen where an engine that's been upside down wouldn't turn over because the cylinders were full of oil. Of course, that engine was upside down for quite a while. Oil doesn't compress very well. Check your oil, and see if it's where it should be. If it's really low, it may be in the cylinders.

If you meant "nothing at all" it's gotta be something electrical like a fuse or safety switch, or battery cable.

Thanks for the reply Driver444. It is a very very short grunt on the engine when attempting to turn over. I think you maybe correct with the oil theory in the cylinders; due to the amount of white/blue smoke and short runaway d engine running or trying to burn the oil. Do you think the push rods may have bent or any damage occurred? What time frame before the oil drains thourh the rings back to the crackcase?

You can pull the glow plugs or injectors and then try to spin the motor.
Not sure on the CK20 but on my LK 3054 I can pull a lever to kill fuel flow.
I would stop fuel flow, pull the glow plugs and then, if possible, spin the motor by hand and see if you get oil out of the cyls. The spin up in the motor could very well have been excess oil in the cyls. I would think you would've been able to tell if something hydrauliced inside the motor prior to shut down? Good luck.

Sounds like there was oil on top of the pistons as mentioned earlier, seeing as you have tried to start it, there is a good chance you have bent a conrod? Sorry if this scares you, but in hindsight, it would have been good to remove the injectors and spin it over before trying to start it. I hope I am wrong and good luck.

Yep, that's what we used to do with the old stock car when she couldn't keep the shiny side up. Crank her over, add a quart of oil and go. If it wouldn't crank, one guy on either side frantically pulling plugs, crank it over to force the oil out, install plugs, add 2 quarts and be back out on the track before the green flag dropped.

So what are the rules when the tractor rolls? Don't try and start it until it's upright-remove the glow plugs after it's upright, turn the engine and make sure there's no oil in the cylinders-

How about the hydraulic tank-or the battery?

You may be OK. I'm not sure if the starter on an engine that small would be strong enough to FORCE the engine enough to bend something, (it would be connecting rods, not pushrods. Maybe, but I'm not sure.

But, the glow plugs would be the best bet (only bet). Yank the valve cover, pull the plugs, and I'm sure she'll crank then (by hand first). But make sure you put some cardboard down, and be well-stock with degreaser!!!!

Boy , ya know, they can say what they want about intimate moments with the opposite sex, but when something like this happens and its fairly easy to fix, now that's true ecstasy !!!;)
