We all know cats do some weird things, and my 3 year old tabby jumps about 6 feet from a tree to our garage rooftop frequently in the summer, but yesterday afternoon he stayed on the garage rooftop for nearly an hour in the 35 degree weather. Our other three cats will go out in the snow for a few minutes, but Tiggs stays outside for hours no matter how deep the snow is or even if it is raining. He is the most weather tolerant cat I have ever seen.

Lol they are quite the athletes no doubt!

My outdoor black and white cat who does everything outside with me gets on our roof from the ceders that grow next to the garage. She gets down by jumping off onto the top of a 4" fence post that is about 7-8' from the garage its amazing.

Could be those roof shingles warm up nicely in the sun. Also, he may just like the view and dog/coyote free environment up there! Commander of all he surveys. Look upon him and tremble, ye mice & chipmunks.

He has a head for heights that is for sure... Unlike me!

First time I saw him on the roof, I got out a ladder and rescued him...the minute his feet touched ground, he ran back to the tree and jumped back to the roof...you have no idea how stupid I felt....

 I bet he was thinking "what the **** are you doing!? I want to be up here!"

"You don't see cat skeletons in trees or on rooftops" that is what we used to tell people who wanted the Fire Department to "rescue" cats. Expensive and dangerous proceedure.

Maybe he saw one of those big birds (Hawk) circling and decided he'd try to catch him one!

If a Hawk is circling overhead and a cat is clearly visible in the open, a predator such as a Hawk, will regard the cat as possible prey.

On the subject of cats on roofs I just remembered, my neighbour's cat likes jumping onto her bin, then onto the shed roof, then walks over a plank that goes from the shed roof to her garage roof, and sits there for a while.
