During ground contact work bare tractor weight indicates tractor capability. The fundamental importance of TRACTOR WEIGHT eludes many tractor shoppers. Heavier tractor weight is more important for most tractor applications than increased tractor horsepower. Bare tractor weight is a tractor specification easily found in sales brochures and web sites, readily comparable across tractor brands and tractor models, new and used.
I suggest a King Kutter (brand), 'XC' model, Middlebuster/Subsoiler combination or a Dirt Dog (brand) All Purpose Plow with three (3) shanks. The Dirt Dog APP may or may not be functional with your subcompact tractor Three Point Hitch. Check with Dirt Dog.
1,444 pounds tractor weight is very limiting. The draft force resistance of pulling either implement through MOIST soil will leave little traction for cutting roots. Many roots will stop the tractor.
You can order a King Kutter XC Middlebuster/Subsoiler combination on Amazon or eBay.
Repetitively typing almost the same advice on the Topic: SUBCOMPACT or COMPACT TRACTOR? is not that interesting. I am going to accumulate some well considered, well punctuated standard replies, then refine the advice. Everyone is welcome to contribute.
I have a single bottom moldboard plow. It's very HD - Pittsburg Mfg. It can be "taken down" and become a single shank ripper. Even attached to my M6040 I must be careful. Hook on to a root from one of my ancient Ponderosa pines and everything can be brought to a rapid stop.
