ROP and FEL for Domestic Yanmar

This my first posting so please forgive any incorrect use of this forum. Im looking to purchase a compact tractor for dirt driveway maintainance , field mowing /landscaping and material moving on a new piece of property in the NE. I have an opportunity to buy an 1981 YM226D ( 1000hr ) with plow/dozer setup, rear 48" rotary mower , moldboard plow and cicle bar for around $4500. The owner bought new and the tractor looks like it was really taken care of it . I was looking primarily for something with a FEH and this machine poped up just down the road but does not have ROP or the FEL . The question(s) 1) does any one know if ROPS are available for this non - gray model? From looking at the forum, I can see a lot of Gray ROP support but not much for the domestic Yanmars. And after reading some of the rop threads , I think this should be my first addon to the tractor 2) FEL - I have seen posts refering to the Brush Hog (1846QT or the 2246QT) FEL as a possible fit for this machine. Does any one know of any other ? Is there a Gray model that is similar enough that I could fit a Koyker? It has a two lever control box mounted already for the plow. Can this be used for the Brush Hog loader as well?

a 226 is a U.S. made mod yanmar. I don't know if rops for a grey will work. You can contact a yanmar dealer for U.S. models & possibly order one. It's odd to me that the tractor didn't come from the factory with rops.

Thanks, I thought it was odd also. Owner said it didnt. It is a 1081 . I dont know if that makes any difference .

Egal720 welcome to TBN, a lot of Yanmar dealers post on this board, but for a faster reponse call Hoye tractor or sreach out LMTC, LMTC should be easy to find on here or searching the web, you will have to email LMTC (wayne), call (Aaron or Matt) hoye tractor ads should be on top of this post, just thought about Erine, you can search him on here also. hope this helps. Thanks for the info . I have sent a PM to LMTC and spoke to Hoye. Im new to Yanmar so I may be wrong but it seems like there is a lot more support for gray tractors than the USA versions. The Yanmar USA site doesnt contain and info on older models or parts and the Yanmar USA dealers I have spoken with havent been able to help with a ROP for older models.

There ARE Yanmar dealers who support domestic market Yanmars for parts. BTW, if you can get the same part thru Deere, it will be cheaper & arrive faster. See http://www.yanmar.com/tractor/dealerlocator.asp for their dealer locator. ROPS were not required until about 1985, which is why yours doesn't have one. Many tractor makers offer ROPS systems at low (it's all relative, they ain't cheap) cost. You can also take the tractor to a local fabrication shop & have them weld up a rollbar that will work just as well, but it won't be certified. Then you must add a seatbelt. A local gray market dealer sends folks to someone who will make one up for a few hundred bucks.

Most rollbars are nice looking curvy structures, but look at a photo of a JD 870 & you'll see just 2 uprights and a crossbar, so you don''t need anything fancy to do the job.

This topic has been hashed out time & time again, so I won't go into detail, but if you can purchase a ROPS & seat belt that has been tested by a certified lab. I would do so. A certified ROPS has been tested to withstand the weight of your tractor incase of a roll or a backflip. Just my opinion

I dont think I will have much luck with Yanmar USA so it seems I have a choice of fabing one at my local welder or getting a gray version from a similar tractor as Wayne @LMTC mentioned. I guess I would need to match the "back side" of the tractor where the ROP would attatch. Does anyone have photos of a ROP attachment so I can get an idea of where the measurements need to come from?
