ROPS damaged?

The following is purely hypothetical. Let's say a may tries to drive his Kubota into his garage while the ROPS is fully extended. (As I say, this is purely hypothetical. This would never happen to me. And, furthermore, would never happen to me TWICE.) Now the ROPS top is jammed into the garage-door frame. The only way free is to back out. The door frame is left a little splintery and the ROPS now has maybe a quarter-inch of extra play in it, though it is not bent. My hypothetical question is: Is the ROPS damaged to the extent that the man needs to have it repaired? I present this question purely out of the spirit of open discussion.

Where is the extra play coming from? Tighten it up and don't worry about it; IMO

As long as there is no structural damage to it and it's only "loose" I would have to agree with dgdave1, tighten it and keep on tractoring.

You haven't stated which ROPS you have: Folding or Non-fold ... if the later, I would think the hinge pins/bolts could possibly be tightened. I noticed in a recent VERY cold spell, the pins contracted in the cold and loosened up substantially.

If you have the non folding ROPS, I would have it checked out THOROUGHLY. NOONE can afford to have that part of their tractor fail.

Funny post, kind of like "Doc, I have this friend who has these bumps....."

LMAO!

I sure wouldn't ever have thought I could pull into the garage with the ROPS up, but after reading all these posts lately, I pay extra attention now before I go be-bopping in.

First, I'd have removed some air from the rear tires to free the rops before backing out.

A ROPS is a very solid metal structure. I really don't think that a garage door frame would damage it. Retighten the hinges' bolts and you should be fine.

It happened to me a couple of times to touch the bottom of the garage door with the rops of my former BX23. No harm done though. Yeah, it happens.

Newtarheel: Your hypothetical friend should go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy an 8' garage door. Bad events come in threes and he has hit his door only twice so far.............

Newtarheel,
If you would have substituted a hypothetical "orange" tractor, I would say you've been spying.
First time wasn't so bad, as I was barely moving.
The second time, I believe I shook the whole house:eek:
I checked the ROPS out, and it appears OK.
One more time and I raise the header (if I still have one left)

OH NO! I hope my friend doesn't hit the garage twice!! Once
was enough! I hope

My ROPS has a bit of play at the folding joint that I never really noticed until I was driving over some bumpy frozen ground and it was flopping back and forth a bit. Is it possible that the play was there all along but the hypothetical man just never noticed it until he gave it a critical inspection after the "incident"? I plan to make some little wedges to take the play out.Not for any functional reason, just so I don't notice it on bumpy ground.
