How important are the knobs on the folding ROPS? Mine (on the BX24) don't stay tight. Several times I've lost one, only to find it later behind the seat. It is not clear to me exactly what purpose they serve. If I have to lower the ROPS to get under trees, the knobs screw themselves in and I just have to unscrew them to put the ROPS back up. I'm tempted to take them off. Can anyone suggest a reason not to?

As far as I know they are to tighten the folding joint so it won't rattle.

My joints don't rattle. Well, MY joints rattle, but my tractor's joints don't. Unless the knobs do as they unscrew themselves.

Mine have loosened up and almost got lost during trailer transport. If you want to prevent loss just deform the last thread or two so they can't back all the way out.....

ToadHill is correct the knobs are to hold the ROPS tight so it will not rattle.

If you no not need the option to fold the ROPS the hinge bolt can be tightened up which should eliminate the possibility of a rattle developing and the knobs would no longer be necessary.
