Do any of you RTV owners experience a rattle/squeak where the upper horizontal arm of the ROPS connects to the vertical bar? Mine seems to be focused on the passenger side. Bolt is tight...

I've never had one there but I think the rear cage was rattling some when I got mine. Tightened the bolts and it went away.

JimmyS,
I have always used a thin coat of RTV silicone when I assemble (or re-assemble) ROPS or cages. This has always worked for me. Hope this helps, Mark

"RTV silicone" - They actually make silicone for the RTV? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I guess the pun just fits so nicely /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Yes. Exactly the way you describe and no idea what is causing it. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Yep, I have the same noise, except mine is on the driver's side. I haven't tried too hard to come up with a solution yet, but would sure like to know if anyone figures it out.

Mine appeared yesterday on the drivers side (17 hrs. on machine). Didn't know what was causing it till the wife was riding shotgun and figured it out. Yes it is the rear safety screen on the rops. It seems that it harmonically vibrates at a specific rpm. Makes a really wierd noise. All bolts are tight. It might take some bracing horizontally to eliminate this.

My noise is not coming from the screen but from the ROPS. I have only noticed it on the drivers side. It's like a pinging noise as you would hear if a metal joint was under stress. For me it's not really a rattle and is only noticeable when moving. Speed doesn't seem to make any difference either.

Mine, like Kevin's, is definitely in the ROPS and it sounds as he has described. I am going to try out the silicone idea this weekend (remove the bolt - thin coat of silicone - retighten), But I'm not sure that it is coming from the bolt interface, but from the 2 sections of the ROPS bars (horizontal / vertical) rubbing together as the RTV "torques" over changes in the terrain. It doesn't take a serious bump to cause this noise - or a certain rpm/speed. Being a previous Mule owner with the one piece roll bar - it may just be something I have to get used to. But it is a bit unnerving...

Jimmys,

Please post your findings. I will be curious to find out if this fixes the problem. Thanks.
