Greetings,

I was wondering if anyone can tell me the height/width of a 2300 ROPS... the reason I ask is that I HATE my 2310 ROPS ! I have a lot of trees and it always rubbing on branches and such. As well, it is JUST an few centimeters or a 1/4 inch ( for my American friends ) to high for my garage door opening so I have to fold it down each time and I have forgot a few times and the result is not good ! I know I can take the clearance lights off, but it will not be enough. I know it is a safety issue, but I would like to replace it with the 2300 ROPS which is shorter and narrower OR build something else. I don't have a lot of hills, and operating the hoe with a shorter or narrower ROPS is no issue for me. Any thoughts... ???

Have you considered cutting down the one you have? I looked at it and that seems to be the easy way out. I would either shorten the top section where it folds or you could simply cut the top part down right where the radius begins and weld it back together. If you are not capable, you could possibly get qualified person to do it and still be under the cost of a new one for a 2300.

Just had another idea, I have noticed that many of the landscapers have folding rops that can be locked in several positions. often they keep them in an intermediate position where it is not quite up but, it is only slightly down, but down enough to give more clearance. Perhaps you could make a "link" that would fit in the gap created when you fold it 10 or 20 degrees from vertical giving you the clearance you desire. This would have the added benefit of easily being restored to the original configuration for future resale. Not to mention a low cost to fabricate.

2300 ROPS height is 72.8 inches while the 2310 rops is 86 inches. I think the width is going to be similar. I know that FEMCO makes aftermarket ROPS for JD, Mahindra, and Kubota, but unsure if they can make one for the MF.

I think the width is the same at the bottom but the 2310 ROPS is somewhat wider at the top.

I also think you said earlier that if we closer we could trade (my 2400 ROPS for your 2310). That would be great if we could pull it off.

You are right, I looked this morning, the 2310 is a lot wider at the top that the 2300, same at the bottom.

Madhatter, if you do change your ROPS I would be very interested to hear what you decided on and how it worked. I agree that the ROPS is just too big and cumbersome. It seems like it is always getting in the way. I have had more close calls due to the ROPS than any situation I have been in with the FEL or BH!
Anyway my GC2310's folding ROPS is damaged on the two bottom pieces (darn trees!) and I am trying to decide what I should do.
1) Replace with 2300 ROPS
-I like the idea of the lower ROPS because I do a lot of residential mowing, but I worry about head room with the BH.
2) Replace damaged sections ($545)
-To replace the damaged pieces with new is a bit pricey....the ROPS still seems strong enough to keep the tractor from rolling so I just keep procrastinating (and hitting things!).
3) Replace with aftermarket
-I have not looked into pricing for aftermarket. I will check out the manufactures Archery mentioned.
Thanks!

Thanks for the advice guys... glad i am not the only one that is having an issue with the ROPS. I called my local dealer and a 2300 rops is around $320.00 can. A lot for a bent piece of metal, but that way I can keep my original intact when I sell it. The 2310 rops is fine if you have no trees, but man is it a pain if you have them !

Almost every part on these machines costs twice what you think they should cost. If you haven't checked parts prices some common parts like a starter ($360)(US) or a radiator ($375)(US), make sure you sitting down and pray you don't ever need any major parts after your warranty expires.
Thats why I suggested making a "link" to partially fold it. That would leave most of the $320(CAN) in your pocket.

For you guys that have a parts manual you can get parts prices at: Parts Search Database

I am going to say what is talked about a lot in the safety forum. All liability will be taken away from the manufacture should you roll your tractor and the ROPS fails if it is modified in anyway. A little inconvenience is worth a life. No one ever plans on turning a tractor over and a person can have completely flat land and still roll one. I have seen more than one tractor that was rolled, some operators have been lucky and some haven't. Any reputable welding or fabrication shop will not touch a ROPS. There are many that have chosen to modify their ROPS or build one on their own. Do a search on the net to see if those were the ones that are on the government sites where there has been fatalities or if the fatalities were produced on tractors with factory ROPS.
