I am looking for a medium weight rotary brush cutter (5ft). The local dealer sells one made by International, a company located in Ohio, cost $600.00

Is anyone familiar with this product?

I've got the 5 footer. It's not pretty, but it sure gets the job done. Had a leaking seal on the gear box right from the get-go, but aside from that I'm happy with it.

Good for price. I've seen a few, and there have been several posts about them being durable. John

I have one that I bought two years ago. I have a few dings in the deck from rocks. I have had no problems. The only thing I wish was different is the bracing on top holds water if it is stored outside. Would I buy again? Yes

Drill a small weep hole near the corners of the braces. This will allow the water to drain away with no detriment to your deck.

Poor finish, extremely stout for the $$, and they have been making it forever. $600 for an IM500 is a very good price, as there have been three price increases since January due to steel costs. We are at $659 I think.

Does anyone know who sells them in the n. Fl or s. GA area?

I have the 6' foot model, and like the others said it is really stout. I have used mine a lot and "tested" its strength twice now.

The first time I found the corner of an old barn foundation. The blades hit it so hard that the blades hit the top of the deck making that perfect circle dent in one corner. It bent the back gaurd on the bottom side protecting the stump jumper. After beating the gaurd back in place it ran just like before. The second time I hit a large tree stump that was cut off at the ground about 6" up. It brought the whole tractor to a dead stop at 2nd range 4th gear. (thank god for seatbelts /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif) This time it bent the left arm on the 3pt hook up. After getting it back in place it again runs good as new. Both times no welds cracked and nothing actually broke. These were both violent abuses that I would of expected to break something but it held up fairly well.

It is extremely smooth and vibration free. Can't ask for more from the most "inexpensive" cutter I could find.

I, too, have the 6 ft model - built like a M1A1 tank but not quite as pretty. Will chop up pretty much whatever I go over, including my jacket whcih fell off the seat as I was tooling along. Shredded that sucker all over the pasture... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif All in all - I'd get another if this one died - but as strong as it seems, I really don't know how I'd ever kill it.
