Looking at buying this 6' Rotary Cutter....
Mower.jpg

The seller says he thinks it's a Howse, but I'm skeptical. The Green paint is cover up and it looks like the original color is Yellow.

The Identaplate is gone and all/any identifying/informational stickers are missing as well.

Anyone have a guess as to what Make of mower this is?

it does not look like any howse I've seen.

JD uses gearbox covers on some mowers.. but.. I'm not up on JD equipment.

I know servis(rhino) had yellow equipment. some industrial JD was yellow too.

good luck on the ID.. it's not a model i'm familiar with. resembles my servis.. but ... i'm not up on servis models..

I have a Howes and it isnt built anything like that. I thought mine was beat up from all the rocks I hit, but that one is worse than mine. Looks really super light duty.

Agree it could be an old Servis, but by that tailwheel design and it being yellow it could also be an old Woods hog.

There are probably other TBN members that are more knowledgeable than I am in regards to this matter. But it is my opinion that it is somewhat homemade, utilizing different parts from other cutters. The tail wheel assembly appears fabricated and the side bands most definitely appear to be fabricated and installed. I couldn't actually see the side and front bands that well. Perhaps the mowing deck from one manufacturer and a gearbox added from another? Possibility?????:tractor:

Boone, Except for the paint, that looks like a definite match to what I have. I figure (as close as I can...) that mine is an old Woods Dakota 72. At least, that's the closest model I can find pics of that matches mine. What is the model of the cutter in your pic?

Mine is almost 100% except there is NO chain curtain on the front to keep debris from flying at the tractor (and ME on it) during operation. I see that the OEM(?) chain curtains sell for near $200.00, but am hoping to build something as good for less $$. Any ideas? I have a few myself but would like to hear from the folks here before stating what I'm thinking.

EDIT: Since I'm pretty new to the game and not great with the terminology yet, thought I'd add a pic of the chain barrier that my cutter is missing.

Mike : The cutter in my pic was not listed with a mdl #. I came accross it looking on Woods bushhog under all the images. vintage Woods bushhogs - Google Search
Also if you type in vintage Woods bushhog and look under images you will see others. woods bushhog - Google Search
Also WOODS 72-3, Used WOODS 72-3, WOODS 72-3 For Sale At TractorHouse.com - Page 1

Has some for sale, but they are 72- ? mdls.
Hope this helps you in your search.

to be honest, i would look more at the gearbox. (take cover off if need be) there should be some sort of plate or imprint on gearbox. to identify gearbox.

a local tractor dealer / tractor repair dealer. should hopefully be able to look up gear box number and figure out any pins/washers/bolts. you might want to get measurement for shaft diameter that drops down to the blade/blades. and possibly pull off PTO shaft from gearbox. and double check shaft size coming off of gear box there.

assuming the gearbox hasn't been changed out in something that old.
