Purchased a new King Kutter bushhog this summer to replace a well worn JD. It runs good and cuts fine. The only problem I have is that grass gets ejected out the back directly onto the rear wheel. In no time it winds around the axle bushing and causes the wheel to start dragging. To clear it I have to shut down the PTO and clear it by hand.
Anyone have any mods or suggestions to prevent this? I was thinking of something along the lines of a guard on the tire frame, but I'm not sure that would work. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

How about a couple of plates welded in a vee attached to the wheel frame. Or just a couple of pieces of pipe split and attached over the axle.

what about a sheet metal v infront of the wheel that will split the discharge grass to either side?

How about a metal strap attached to the tail wheel bracket that supports a piece of inner tube or sheet rubber that would hang down and shield the axle? The rubber would flex and not get caught on anything.

You might consider a chain or rubbber brush guard. Things being ejected out of the back (or front) have a way of deflecting in the weirdest ways.

I like that rear chain guard idea.. serves two purposes.

My Woods is made different more that likely, but I put belting on the back to keep from throwing rock. I don't think that the belting would let grass get up on the wheel assembly either. I just used round baler belting. Your dealer should have a roll of used that he would give you free.

While we are talking about modifications, I often find branches or pieces of concrete block or fence posts other things while mowing and need to haul them off. The idea came to build an expanded metal basket for the mower that would be a place to put these things. This would be over the gear box and almost the width of the mower. Hinged for easy access to the gearbox, and it could work well to also be a dump basket so when I'm at the pile I could dump iy without picking up each piece of stuff.
