Earth Tools' website notes that the Berta rotary plow will work on BCS and Grillo walk-behind tractors that have at least 8.5 hp (gas). My question, "has anyone used a rotary plow on an 8 hp gas engine tractor?" I would be using the plow on ground that has been plowed with a moldboard plow by a large tractor, disced and rotary tilled. Eventually I reseeded the area but I know the condition of the soil and it's in good shape. This is a theoretical question at this point because it would probably be next year before I could do this. Buying a plow and a larger tractor are not really in the equation thus my question. I do know that I would need to upsize the tires but that is doable. Any feedback would be appreciated.

If it's the Kohler Magnum. Yes. If it's a Briggs or Honda. Probably not. I used to mow my my lawn with a Kohler Magnum powered 730 on the 38" mower. Joel said it shouldn't do it, but it did. Those Magnums were a great engine with lotsa torque.

I think the big issue with 8hp powered two-wheel tractors is that they usually do not have differential drive to the wheels nor have the larger 5x10 wheel and tires. The lack of the differential make turning much more difficult especially if you fit the required 5x10 wheels and tires and the wheel extensions required to give the tractor 16" of width between the tires measured inside to inside. My advice is get a larger tractor with differential drive, even a BCS 830 with the 8hp Kohler Magnum.
