My latest thing to play with is american buffalo horns. Making spoons for my kids and related kids like this one:

After a search I found just the perfect shaper:
2" Diameter Rotary Shaper
It chips the material fairly well with low amount of dust and in drillpress it is real pleasure to work with. Tried on some wood too - since I have to make about 5 wooden swords every year - the kids brake them fast and if left outside, the dogs will chew them in to pieces.
Anyway, the shaper will cut cross the wood or plywood in reasonable smoothness and faster than any drum sender would.
There is a new woodcraft store open in Leesburg - it is gonna cost me a lot of money over the time
