I was in Walmart the other day. I saw the quart Rotella Synthetic for $15.44. First let me say I tried to search for this. I do not know how to do it anymore. I used to be able to narrow searches, forcing it to look for specific words by using and instead of or. I could not find that option and just plugging in and did not work. Back to the redundant oil question.

1. Can you use Rotella synthetic in a car?
2. Would you want to?
3. Is Wally world synthetic any good?
Note: Just picked up an 2001 Olds Aurora V6 with 70K miles. Would like to switch to synthetic.
4. Don't mind buying the Mobile 1. What is a realistic oil drain mileage figure for a car?

Sorry, I know you all have anwsered these questions a thousand times. I will continue to play with search and see if I can find some of this. I do not have the patient lately to dig through some of those threads looking for the car questions.

1. If it meets or exceeds the API rating mentioned in the Owner's Manual, then 'Yes'.
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. 10,000 miles.

There aren't many car questions in the Oil Forum. 1,000s of oil questions, but not many car questions.

I doubt it. I assume that you mean a "gallon" or a 5 quart bottle for that price. Rotella is a cheap pseudo-synthetic oil, not a premium high line expensive synthetic.

Your right. I meant to put 4 quart bottle. I am looking for a reasonable synthetic for tractor and car. Of course, not the same weight or even the same brand. I went by Autozone, they did not have anything. I know amsoil is good. I will check out there website later. I will check the Mobil 1. If I switch I want the good stuff but of course I want the best price:) . I have an all day realtors class today. Ruck!:( I'll look into later today.

I simply use Mobil One becasue I live in freaking cold Wisconsin. I need the oil to flow in very cold weather. I also change my oil every 5-6 thousands miles, or 3 times a year on average. I used to change dino oil every 3k.

Bob, Same here re. the M1, great cold starts on this stuff. I'm running 10Kmi oil change intervals based on used oil analysis. At my next oil change I'm switching over to M1's EP, (extended drain formulation). I may bump my OCI to 15Kmis. I'll run a test at 12kmis and see what it looks like.

Isn't Rotella synthetic 5w-40? I doubt that the Aurora engine wants or needs 40w oil. If you want synthetic, why not use Mobil 1 or Amsoil or Redline which comes in the right viscosity?

I'd intend to agree, but I was just thinking that the original poster was looking for the cheapest oil that said "synthetic" anywhere on it to put in his car. I have a strong disdain for Rotella because I'd wager that the Walmart brand of synthetic oil is of superior quality. I don't care what anyone says, 100% of the reason I've ever heard anyone buy Rotella is C-H-E-A-P.

For the benefits of synthetic and quality, I'd agree and say to go with Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Red Line, or Amsoil. Those all are of about equal quality and Rotella in no way comes close to comparing with their quality.

You are right. It was kinda a curiosity question. I see so much Rotella I just never heard or read of anyone putting it in a car. Wondered why? Yes, I am a cheapskate. I was also wondering who did Wal-Mart’s synthetic. I am considering that one just to stick my toe in the water (synthetic oil, whatever). Of course the Aurora deserves a good oil. Mobil 1 is still my first choice for it. I have a 01 Grand Marquis and a newly rebuilt tractor to consider. Have not had time to research amsoil...need to do that :p . When I do try one I will let you know which one and any unusual observations. I have already picked up all the OEM filters. I am sorry to hear about Rotella synthetic. I have been using Delo 400 in the tractor, at least for the first 50 hours.
