My Mahindra 3215 uses Rotella T 15-40

I use rotella 15/40 in my Kubota and change it every year regardless of the hours. I may have skipped a year once or twice in 10 years in a very low hour year to be honest.

I've waited until I had a few hours on my machine, but yes, I intend to use the Rotella. Either the 10w-30 Silver jug, semi-synthetic, which I got for $16 a gallon a few weeks ago, and I may very well try that 5w-40 as well. Yes, I'd run either year around. Saw that yesterday for $19.50 a gallon.

With our cold winters, 15w-40 isn't going in my machine, as I will only change the oil once a year, (60-70 hours) on average. I might also be curious to try the Deere synthetic, as I understand it is reasonably priced.

An oil post. What could be a rarer thread and draw less debate?:laughing:

I do the same, changed from M1 turbodiesel, got hard to find AND too pricey, change once a year, run it in my gas engines and cars and all diesels... KennyV

I use Mobil 1 0w30. The JD manual calls for 5w30 being okay. This is one step better. Use this in all my engines now except for the new VW TDI. It requires Mobil 1 ESP, but we have 3 years of maintenance included. So, the dealer will be putting their Castrol SLX 5w30 in it for the first 2 oil changes at one year or 10k miles.

Why wouldn't you use 5w40 year round? It's 5w on startup and 40 weight when hot. In the old days, they used 20w in winter and 30w in summer. This is lots better.

I used Shell 5w40 for years in the truck and tractor. The oil really was nice on those cold mornings. The truck did not need to have the block heater anymore. I did get 1-2% more MPG.

Switched to the JD 0x40 oil in a 5 gallon bucket. When I switched the JD oil was $100 or $20 a gallon. Shell was $25 a gallon.

Got another 1-2% MPG. Staring on cold mornings the engine just does not care. Before it idled real rough. It would start up but it sure was not pretty.

I started using the JD oil since it is a bit better but cheaper. If the JD oil is goes up in price compared to Shell I would go back to Shell. Both are more than good enough for my uses.

Later,
Dan
