Looking to get a 48-50" tiller.
This is what I have found so far. Prices have gone up anbout $200 from 2 years ago. Let me know what you think the best deal. Any thoughts on the reverse till?

Caroni S.p.a. 48" $1189.95 Agri Supply in Garner.

King Kutter Incorporated 48" $1459.95 Agri Supply in Garner

http://www.landpride.com/ari/attach/lp/public/specs/311-431s.pdf 50" reverse tiller $1650 Central Carolina Power in Sanford ( place I got tractor from)

Bush Hog&reg - Performance You Can Count On 48" $1375 Central Carolina Power in Sanford ( may want to read this Selma Times-Journal | Bush Hog getting local support )

mj1angier,

I just bought last week at Agri Supply in Garner, a Caroni 56" tiller for $1249.95, they didn't have them out on the yard, they had 3 of them in their old store (now 2), for the price difference in the 48" it was a obvious decision.

I have the LandPride RTR0550 REVERSE Rotary Tiller and I love it! Once you use a reverse tiller you'll never go back. You'll note that mine is the entry level model. I don't know how much tilling you are going to do, but I am half way finished tilling up a 1 acre lot and it is doing fantastic. After this redo of the yard it will only have to do seasonal tilling of a 60x60 garden plot. Check out the price on the model I have. Will probably be able to save a few bucks. Good luck! :p

I just picked up a KK and lots of posts on here about how they have held up. CCM sells a real nice unit as well. My stuff is pretty rough, pasture fields etc, and I was advised to stay away from the reverse tiller for that reason. Takes more hp and fuel as the blades are working against the direction you are traveling. For good soil, few rocks, the reverse might be your best bet, but of course more $.

I traded for a bigger tractor recently and also traded tillers at the same time. I had a Bush Hog RTS50. I traded for a reverse rotation Land Pride RTR2072. One pass with the reverse rotation tiller is about like 2 to 3 passes with the standard rotation tiller. Look at Land Pride's website for videos. Reverse rotation tillers cost more, but they save time. They also require more power.

Thanks for all the info folks.
I have a call into the Landpride dealer. Need to find out if they have a slip clutch or shear pin model- I want slip clutch. I think my tractor will do fine withe reverse tiller.
My FIL is going in halves on the cost and the dealer is located half way between us, so it makes more sense to get it there. Plus this is where I got the tractor from.

I bought a used Howard 42" a few years ago off of E-Bay for something like $625. Does everything I need and seems indestructable.
