I have a Kubota FL1271RC Rototiller. A couple of times while using it, my 2910 tractor has stalled out./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif I don't think this should happen. My manual for Rototiller says "The best material is used for the slip clutch so any maintance is not required.". Slip torque 554+- 10% ft-lbs. With an engine that puts out 66 ft-lbs of torque would this clutch ever slip on my tractor?
Anybody ever had their Kubota tiller stall out.
There are 4 bolts on rear side of clutch, but don't know if I can use these to adjust the amount of slip.

Ron,

Just a "tiller rookie" here, but after my Sovema tiller stalled out my tractor once I decided I never wanted that to happen again, so I read through the manual with the tiller. It was a little vague but basically all I had to do was loosen off the bolts that are inside the compression springs. This allowed the plates to slip without stalling the tractor later when I hit a few nasty items (roots/rocks etc). I only had to back the nuts off about 1/2 turn to get the adjustment right.

I don't have stud's and springs like John Miller III is showing in this tread. There are 4 studs with no springs on the studs. I'm hoping someone will have a similar setup. That has adjusted it.

Ron,

I doubt it will help solve your immediate question about how to adjust the clutch, but as a curiosity item....

The 66ft-lbs from the engine translates to 317 ft-lbs at the pto (assuming the engine is running at 2600 RPM and the PTO at 540). The increase comes from the mechanical advantage derived from the reduction gears that change the rotational speeds.

Considering that 317 ft-lbs is still a good bit less than the 500 or so required to slip the clutch, you still have the problem, but at least you can sleep soundly at night knowing your tractor put up a good fight.

Thanks; I couldn't see how my tractor could only have 66 ft lbs of torque./w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif I'll have to call dealer today and find out how slip clutch can be adjusted for a 2910.

Hayden,

317 ft-lbs!/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

That's V-8 country! I had no idea a 2910 would put out that much torque at the pto.

Please do not grab a hold of shaft while engaged to checkout this torque./w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif You will get a chance to try it out on your tractor when it is delivered and when you get a rotary cutter. Are you getting any sleep while waiting for it to be delivered?/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I guess that's why PTO implements all have those warning pictuires of someone getting sucked into the PTO shaft and wrapped around it. Lots and lots of torque! Stand clear!
