Well,......I had a rough night last night.

Don't know why females get so emotional and cry.

Left my trainee in charge and went around the plant telling people goodbye. All the men laughed, insulted me, punched me on the shoulder, shook my hand and went back to work. The gals though,....look at things differently.

Factory is nearly an hour drive from my home.

Guess I shouldn't have told them, "well this is it, guess I will never see you again after tomorrow night".

I'm just glad I wear tinted safety glasses. Nobody could see MY eyes.

The young lady who takes over for the next shift is half my age. We have sat and talked ten to twenty minutes every night at shift change for two years. She was rubbing her eyes when she walked up to me.

ROUGH !!

I don't have to take my lunch tonight. They have brought me food all week.

But tonight is my LAST NIGHT EVER TO WORK IN A FACTORY !!!!

D***, it feels good to say that.

Life goes on.

I'll bet that you will still take opportunities to go back and socialized with the folks there. Its healthy for you to do that, AND its good for the workers there, too. They need to know that life is not all work and there is a life to be had afterwards. There ought to be anniveraries, picnics and parties and other retirement lunches that you can attend. If not, make plans for them. A workforce should be like family.

You'll be back !

I retired over 8 years ago from a job that I liked, with a boss who was great, with co workers that I sincerely enjoyed associating with. I did return to visit during the times they celebrated, but gradually all the people I worked with closely retired also. Back in 1996, when my state agency first began offering early, enhanced retirement, we had 20 staff in our work unit. In the 15 years since, 17 of them have retired and/or transferred, me inclusive. I last visited the worksite in mid-December, my best buddy former co-worker retired at the end of that month. Sad to say, I don't expect to return to my former place of employment ever again, they did hire a few replacements but they are strangers to me.

I will siddown and shuttup now...

BUT YOU TAKE CARE AND ENJOY YOUR WELL DESERVED RETIREMENT.
I tell people I have one real problem with not having to go to work every morning, my problem is keeping this d--- smile off my face. Hoping that's your problem too!!

CONGRATS AGAIN AND ENJOY !!!

Sounds like you served your time in the factories. Now you can start enjoying life instead of just wading though it....Congratulations

When I retire soon I doubt I will ever return to the industrial plant I have worked at for 22 years. I do have some good friends there but plan to stay intouch outside of work.

I know Facebook is a young persons forum but us older folks can benifit from it also. I have already located some past retiree's and even some of the guys from high school. We may not pick up the phone but we do get updates every once in a while.

Congrats on your retirement!

I retired from a small town Fire Dept. five years ago, don't go back. In fact every time I drive by the station, i think d***, I'm glad I don't have to do that anymore. :) Very few there anymore that I worked with anyway. Fire Chief is due to retire this year, worked with him for 29 years. ~~ grnspot110

I used to know a fella who retired from Scotland Yard. He said he went back to the office to visit a couple of times, but quickly learned, in law enforcement at least, that once you've retired, you aren't part of the group anymore. When I retired in 1989, I never went back. I occasionally saw someone I used to work with and visited a bit, really have only kept in touch with one. He retired 5 months after I did.

I did go to the new headquarters
