I now have 10 hours on my 4310 & really like the tractor BUT, Saturday I picked up the new bush hog SQ720 took it home to mow the pastures. The problem is I find the ride with the mower is very rough I think the drive shaft might be slightly bent causing vibration, but I dont have any others that long to compare to. also not sure what the air pressure in r-4 tires should be? they had 15 psi. any ideas why my 4310 ride's like a bull would be apericated thanks Mike

Mike, I have a L4610 just a little bigger but same tires and I have R4 also. Check your air, when I got mine the rears had over 30 pis. I have got them down to 10 psi now and I think Im headed lower, just low enough to get a little wrink in the side wall. These tractors just arn't very heavy, and you don't need all that air unless you have a big load. These are the same tires they put on a full size backhoe, the 17.5L-24 have a MAX. load of 5360 LB. @ 26 psi.!!!!!! You could run the whole tractor on one tire! Well almost.

I let the tires down to 10psi & plan to try it out tommorow, also what about swithcing to calcium in the tires instead of water\antifreeze . my old tractor had basically the same wheelbase ran on r-1's weighed 1100 lbs less, but had calcium in the tires. I wonder ??? Another point to poneder when I had the loader on the tractor and ran the 2572 landpride finish mower I did not have the same ride, It was much nicer but a bit harry on hill's esp with the cab !

Somewhere in my cyber travels I remember seeing a chart, but I think it was for truck tires, that you could use to figure what the pressure should be for a given lb. load. Has anyone seen something like this for tractor tires?

Does the driveshaft hit the top of your mower when you lift it? If not, why do you think it is bent? You can remove the outside safety shield and watch the shaft rotate to be sure it is not bent. It is dangerous that way. My Massey pto shaft hit the top of the mower when you lifted it and bent the shaft. Just rotated the driveshaft to the other side, raised it and bent it back. The important things to check are in the Bush Hog manual. There is a minimum overlap of the two pieces of the pto required. The pieces must still have some travel when the bush hog is in its max up position. The manual shows you how to adjust for this. Good Luck and let us know what you find.

The reason I think it may be a little bent is that when it is spinning it has about 1.5 in woble in the shaft for a total of about 3" in a full rotation. This is the longest drive shaft that I have and may be normal ?? but the shafts on my other equipment spin straight & true. My old howse 5' rotary had a bent shaft but didnt shake you to pieces when it was spining but there is a big diff. in size too. I plan to take the whole rig to the dealer on wed. to see what they think. I will check the overlap to theat may have something to do with it because it is out pretty far. thanks Mike

MikeF, sure sounds like one thing's for sure. You've got a bent driveline that needs straightening. I'll bet that really does make for a rough ride. In fact, it'd scare me.
