I enjoyed watching him on Hee Haw when I was a kid, and I was always impressed when they did a segment that showcased his musical talent.

When I was in kindergarten, my parents decided on my behalf that I should take violin lessons. I didn’t know what a violin was, so my parents showed me a guy playing one on Hee Haw. I can’t remember if Roy was playing, but the guy was really “playin’ it hot,” and it looked like a lot of fun.

At my first lesson, the teacher presented me my violin, and I immediately started playing it like crazy. In my brain, I sounded just like the guy on Hee Haw, but I suppose I didn’t.

The teacher grabbed both of my hands to stop the noise, and he showed me how to play an open A note. I found that to be quite boring, as compared to my own freestyle playing. I never did get good enough to play the really cool stuff.

My all time favorite Roy Clark song is, "Thank God and Greyhound, You're Gone".

There are no more bus lines running up this way. So what's the new version? Maybe Thank God and Uber, you're gone!

Back in the 80s I got into a fight with this woman I had a stormy relationship with. She didn't drive, but stormed out saying she was walking the 100 miles back to Toronto. Several hours later, she showed up. A guy from the local watering hole, had given her a ride back here. Some days, a guy just can't catch a break!

He wasn't just a singer and a great entertainer, by all accounts he was an all around decent guy. Just last winter I was watching an episode of "Beverly Hillbillies" where "Cousin Roy" made an appearance... I never realized that he had been a guest star there before his HeeHaw days.

He was great. I always watched him in the 70s, wouldn’t miss his show. I suppose 85 ain’t a bad run, RIP.
