I know on the newer tractors you’re supposed to run at a high rpm, I have a tc40d hst and was wondering if there’s a certain rpm I’m supposed to run the engine when doing loader work, not really working tractor hard?

Most CUTs seem to do their best between 1800 & 2200 RPM, usually between peak torque rpm and PTO rpm.

All four of mine have been trouble-free and performed best there. (still have/use three)

Ok , I tend to run 1500-2000 when not doing hard work, carrying pallets etc. I just wanted to make sure that is acceptable.

Exactly. Each tractor has a 'sweet spot' when it comes to operating RPM... run it lower than that and the machine struggles, run it higher and you're just wasting fuel. (Note: this is different to PTO operating RPM)

My JD 4105 'likes it' at a bit over 2100 and I can work all day at that RPM, especially during haying season. And that includes FEL work and being in 4x4.

If I'm on the road between tasks I'm out of 4x4 mode and increase the revs to just over 2500.

I run my TC40DA at 2000 rpm when doing loader work. I get all the hydraulic lift and speed that I need. For PTO work it calls for 2400 rpm, so I save a little fuel and wear and tear at 2000 rpm. My WM75 runs at 2000 rpm for PTO speed. I tend to run that for loader work so the speeds are the same for each gear as when doing PTO work.

Yep. That's an old style pre-emissions diesel. Those were nice because of a lot of reasons, one of which that they were happy working over a wider range of RPM than the modern diesels.
So find it's sweet spot and run it there. You can run it quite slow by modern standards & it will do fine. I like to run my same vintage 4 cylinder diesel between 1200 and 1800 for a lot of jobs... I'm not in a hurry & prefer the sound at that RPM.

Although at least once every few hours it doesn't seem to hurt to take it up to full PTO-rated RPM for a run back to the barn. ....sometimes I'll do that by leaving in an intermediate gear when I'm traveling. It's nice to have options.

For loader work, I usually run anywhere from 1000 RPM (idle) up to 1500/1800 RPM.

For PTO work, if it can be done at 540 Eco, I'll run at 1800 RPM. Otherwise, I ran the regular 540 PTO speed with the engine from 2200 to 2500 RPM.

When roading, usually from 2000 to 2500. Sometimes up to 3000 but very very rare and only short periods. Usually only if I have a lot of cars behind me without any good place to pull over and let them go.

My tractor doesn't have emissions because in Europe, tractors under 50HP and up to 2020 models weren't required to have any emission stuff on it. From 2021 and on, it starts at 25HP just like US.

Depends on the size of the engine, but you want to run it at a high enough rpm to keep from lugging it. If you don't know or cannot tell what this is, you better just run at 3000 rpm with some good ear muffs.

My neighbor seems to run his 4052 (e.g. 52 hp JD) at a ticka ticka 1500 rpm or so.

My 2025R JD and the 4010 and 1025R before needed about 1800-2000 rpm for FEL work unless digging in soft dirt or for climbing our back hill. Digging requires 3000 or more rpm.

PTO work on the 4010 needed to be 3000 rpm. Don't need the hp from the 1025R and 2025R monster engines; so, 2500 rpm is enough for PTO work.
