Yanmar 1610D
I have a Yanmar RS1303 Tiller that came with my 1610D. I changed the oil in the gear box on the side of the tiller and in the gear box on the top center of the tiller today. I haven't used the tiller until today. After changing the oil I hooked it up to my tractor. When I started to use the tiller it vibrated much more than I think is normal. The tines appeared to be rotating in a jerking motion. At first I thought the tines were hitting the housing but that was not the case. I suspect the bearings on the opposite side from the gear box may be bad. I read, here on the forum, those bearings are prone to go bad. I didn't have time to check the bearings today. Hopefully, I can take a look at them in the next few days. Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Not familiar with the 1303 but is it chain driven or gear either or I( don't think changeing the oil would have much of anything to cause that unless you were useing it and didn't have enough in it. The bearing is on the non-drive side and is the one mentioned on here alot.Just pull the cover and clean and repack it with grease. If it's the old style not sealed. When you open it and all the bearings are there it should be fine. My guess off the top of my head is that when you were checking it you may have just had the PTO shaft in a bind. Or the Tiller raised to high and possibly putting the U-Joints in a bind. Just a guess since I have done that with mine before. There should be grease zerks for those also.

I checked the non-drive side bearings today. The bearings are in fine shape. No water in the grease. Looks like previous owner may have serviced the tiller on a regular basis. I was able to solve the vibration problem by using a 16 inch top link. Gives me plenty of clearance between the rear tires and the tiller and it runs very smoothly. Thanks Carey for suggesting I check the pto shaft for binding. That was the problem. :D

The top link should have came with the tiller. It is a two part system , that bends in the middle.

Thats Good Monte glad your got it going :D
Here is a pick of the top link for a RS1400 the 1303 should be similar or the same. I'm getting better but now you put me on it and I stated I had the same problem now I remember why. They gave me the wrong PTO shaft and I couldn't shorten it enough. I actually had to shorten the top link also to keep it from binding.Look at the top link at weld. And also PTO welding and cutting. Like I said I had the same problem with binding. And something else reminded me as my name just came up. The real bad part was The tiller was stock for my tractor and came from a ( UH TA DA ) there you go dealer. I hope there ROP's fit better than thier implements do.Hate to be on that truck route :(
